Re: General Android on TP2 Questions Thread

Something I've noticed... If you enable Wi-Fi, it disables 3G Data as it should, but then when you disable WiFi, 3G Data does not turn back on, so either you turn WiFi back on to use data, or you get nadda until you reboot...

I'm on a Sprint TP2 btw.

Also, everytime I boot, Android starts in Landscape mode... so I have to open the keyboard and close it at every boot to get it to return to portrait.

Anyone know of any fixes for either of these problems? I've tried doing "Search for networks" and setting airplane mode on and back off... no luck...

Re: General Android on TP2 Questions Thread

I just put the latest 4-19 release on my Sprint TP2 and I believe that it is coming along VERY nicely. The first time I booted into Android, I could not get it to connect to Sprint and it was stuck in Airplane mode. It crashed when I tried to disable airplane mode, and when I booted into Android again, it connected to Sprint just fine. I haven't tried texting or making calls yet.

I know that this is still in development, but is this supposed to run really choppy? The animations are not very smooth most of the time, whether I am switching screens, or scrolling through the settings list. Does that have anything to do with my storage card's class? Because I am just using an old card I had laying around. I just downloaded XDAndroid from Cflynt's sticky and extracted it into the root of my storage card without making any modifications to the startup.txt or anything. It didnt even ask me to calibrate my screen; it just worked right out of the box.

here is my startup.txt; any modifications I should do to run a bit smoother?:

set RAMSIZE 0x6000000
set RAMADDR 0x10000000

set mtype 2292
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz

#pwf dm.txt 0x8e0000 0x20000

set cmdline "msmvkeyb_toggle=off gsensor_axis=2,1,3 lcd.density=240 htc_hw.force_cdma=1 physkeyboard=rhod400"

boot

Thanks guys!

Re: General Android on TP2 Questions Thread

Yes there are a few things you can do to speed up android alot actually. use this command line instead in your startup.txt file.

set cmdline "msmvkeyb_toggle=off gsensor_axis=2,1,3 lcd.density=240 htc_battery_smem.fake=1 acpuclock.oc_freq_khz=768000 hw3d.force=1 htc_hw.force_cdma=1 physkeyboard=rhod400"

This will:
Stop annoying battery warnings (some have this)
Overclock the processor to 768 mhz (change to "acpuclock.oc_freq_khz=700000" if having startup issues in android)
enable the semi working hardware 3d (on startup the "X" graphic won't be displayed though)

with these tweaks your android shall run like buttah

I assume that you mean that you tried changing your startup text to the one posted above.
If it hangs up its most probably to do with overclocking the cpu, while people are reporting it to be stable some phones aren't liking it, try changing the 768000 to 700000 that should fix it.

The g-sensor as of yet does not have full android support, therefore at times it will not detect that you have rotated the screen, the easiest way to fix this is to disable automatic orientation, press the Menu button and select Settings. Then select Sound & display settings. Scroll down till you get to Orientation under Display settings. Uncheck that box, and it should no longer flip on you automatically.

Though I have heard that this may not prevent the phone from booting in landscape.

The easiest way to do this in not to import them in to gmail or google voice but to use google sync, it makes no difference whether you have emails for them in gmail or not.

To use google sync, click on the active sync icon on your phone, click menu, click configure server, type in m.google.com and make sure box that states "This server requires.....connection" is checked, click next and type in your gmail information, ( if it needs the domain, type in google, otherwise leave it blank), click next and select what you would like to sync.

To copy in to android just add that email account, and it will automatically import.

1) Will Android ever be completely functional (eventually) on the CDMA TP2? Are there other Windows Mobile CDMA phones that are now completely functional with Android?
2) Once a port is stable, does it always have to be started from within windows mobile? Or will a separate rom be made eventually that can be directly flashed?

Thanks!
Look at this link for the current status of all htc android ports.
