Correct. Running the Android OS means you aren't going to be running WinMo apps. And before you ask.. No. No iphone apps or Palm apps either.
One thing to note though is you won't be installing Android. Just running it for now. When you reboot the phone, you're back to good ol WinMo!

No CDMA data yet; but great work nonetheless.

This is all very exciting, can someone detail the steps to get this running on my Verizon TP2? Would I be right in thinking that this in effect makes it a dual boot phone and I can switch between Android and the default windows mobile?

Thanks

Craig

Read the first post. Detail the steps... :violent1:

Jeez. If someone can't read enough to get this going on their own, they have no right even messing around with this stuff. At least try and come back with specific questions for Pete's sake. Would you like something like this:

1) Open your microwave
2) Place your phone in the microwave
3) Set timer for 10 seconds
4) Press Start

maybe if your steps were more clear, people wouldn't have such a hard time getting this going. You forgot a vital step:

1) Open your microwave
2) Place your phone in the microwave
3) close microwave door
4) Set timer for 10 seconds
5) Press Start

Your last step is incomplete:

1) Open your microwave
2) Place your phone in the microwave
3) close microwave door
4) Set timer for 10 seconds
5) Press Start
6) Eat with fork & knife
7) call ambulance (with someone else's phone since you just ate yours)

lol!

On topic, that Civic guy seems to be on the right track. Hopefully it's just figuring out the software and there are no hardware catches.

Re: Android, it's alive!.. (2.0.1) - Updated 12/24

Yes, back on topic! It has been installed and is working great, based on the limitations that Civic said it would have. Looking forward to his future builds.

I haven't read this anywhere, on this or any other of the Android threads but is the theory that once the build is a stable as it can get that it could then be flashed to the internal memory just like the other ROM's available here it will it always be boot from SD card situation.

PS. Anyone got any popcorn as I have an empty microwave that needs to be put to use.

I am running Mighty ROM Impact, and it will not load completely... do you need to be running a specific ROM in order to get this running?

I even disabled Sense, and then extracted the zip file to the root of my SD card, then run the Haret exe. It loads the Linux executable, and then stops on "17.032714 Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer derefere"

I had issues at first, but it works great after I switched to an old class 2 2GB memory card I had lying around.

There isn't a version for our Touch Pro 2's that support voice or data, as far as I know. I'm using the 12/24 release and it's functional, but no connectivity yet.. hopefully this changes soon as I'd really love a NAND version of Android :D

It is still very buggy on CDMA. Data does not work. Calls kind of work. I can make calls, but hear nothing.

See this link for the best CDMA build I know of. Be sure to check what works and what doesn't.

Here's a better CDMA thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616483

Still, just as buggy as everything. Once something that's a little better than the one in my original post, I'll update

the great thing about all this development is that as soon as the tp3 is available, it will be easy to port since most of the upfront work is done. i did notice a little lag using the phone in the youtube video, hopefully a stable rom won't have the same issues.

if anyone has an android device and has used an iphone for extended periods of time, are the apps as good? yelp, web browsing, etc?

uhhh no.

if they make a tp3 there better be a better proccessor in there. So they would pretty much have to redo everything

Got everything working. It took about 3 tries, but is working fine, including calling. So what all does this build allow one to do? Just tinker with it? As there is no data or wifi, not much else can be done.

Ya it's pretty much just to mess around with for now. Once it's fully functional I will switch over to it. But it might be a while.
