[TESTING] XDAndroid GBX0C 2.3.7 Build

Hey folks,

This is a completely new build, with all the new changes baked in. We wanted to do a semi-official test release to collect bugs and hopefully do a formal official release with everything settled. The main pain point is the CSV files (see pre-install prep).

So a brief overview:
  • New acoustic routing code baked in. Should fix most if not all audio routing problems, and will provide more debugging if stuff does go wrong. Also allows for more granular tweaking, see the CSV files.
  • GPS fixes for GB - GPS not only works in GB now, but it doesn't kill sleep! I was able to use GPS, get a solid lock, and put the device to sleep no problem.
  • BT should work & well with the new acoustic code. Post results.
  • RHOD users now have a choice of kernels. .35+ all have the new acoustic - so .35, .39, 3.0 and 3.1 are all fair game now... This is bundled with .27!!
  • Keep in mind, autobuild .27 kernels will produce no audio in this build... Obviously the bundled kernel will work, and the absolute newest .27 autobuild kernel does work now - Feb.27 2012 or newer.
  • rootfs tweaks - first, it will detect which kernel you're on (.27 or .35+) and automatically apply the correct firmware. Second, is it will always copy/extract the modules... failures there were getting annoying, and this is surefire if brute-force...
  • Few Easter egg apk's...
  • Probably a lot I'm forgetting, this might change ;)

Pre-Install Prep REQUIRED!!!

This step is crucial, and I forgot all about it! You must copy all of the *.CSV file from your WinMo ROM - these are in the \Windows\ directory. There's a very easy way to do this. It involves the Total Commander app for WinMo (Direct Link for the perpetually lazy...) (included in EnergyROM and others probably).

Now you're in Total Commander looking at your \Windows\ directory. Whew... lots of files. Fear not! Hit the "CTRL" button, then the green "Plus" button. This opens the Select/Unselect files dialog. Put in *.csv, press "select" and voila. All CSV files are selected. Now - File -> Copy/Move -> I want you to copy these (should be 10) files to the ROOT of your SD card. No folders!!! This is hardset right now, until we get it all implemented into the build properly. Thanks!

Install

Assuming you've done the pre-install prep; this is installed just like the other XDAndroid builds - grab your startup.txt (don't forget rel_path= if you don't have it at the root of the SD!), ts-calibration and boot!

Caveat List
  • CDMA users might get a crash in phone.apk and no service on boot. If waiting doesn't resolve the issue, then reboot. Should come up fine...
  • BT might still be flaky
  • The CSV files from my RHOD400 are attached for the lazy. I'd like to gather CSV's from each RHOD, I'm curious if any ROM devs have changed them out either... This could get interesting. If you folks don't mind, post up your CSV's, point out differences with mine, etc... We're trying to figure out how to unify these, if possible! Thanks!
Please post back any issues, enjoy!

Re: [TESTING] New Acoustic GB 2.3.7 Build

GBX0C Changelog
  • Camcorder: Now works (tested on rhodium).
  • Acoustic: Bug-fix : correct random loss of dual(rear)-mic.
  • MMS: Bug-fix: Slides with zero duration on Sprint.
  • Gps: Bug-fix: Init/de-init sequence fix (correct gps not starting up after being unchecked in Settings).
  • Gps: Bug-fix: End gps session with a correct rpc call (relevant to amss6125 devices).
  • Gps: Bug-fix: Don't send delayed position requests after session has ended (possibly relevant to Navigation issues).
  • Gps: New feature: Xtra (aGPS) -> verified to work on rhodium/cdma raph.
  • X1 specific: Screen rotation patch.
  • Added tytung's GPS injector app to AndroidApps\Other as well as updating/cleaning up some apps in AndroidApps.
  • Modified rootfs for newest apsta firmware & wifi firmware - wifi tethering now works flawlessly in the newest kernels! .27 is still bundled for the record...

Re: [TESTING] New Acoustic GB 2.3.7 Build

Just to get people going on some of the newer kernels.

2.6.35 is currently auto-built at:

https://code.google.com/p/zimages/downloads/list

Emwe has been maintaining this tree, and he is most qualified to speak about it, but pretty much everything is functional barring camera.

.39+ kernels are auto-built at:

Htc-Msm-Kernel-Autobuild

Everything should work on these as well except: no proximity for gsm rhods, no 3.5mm. Only 3.0 has BT for now. These three are very similar to each other.

I noticed I had 1 more .csv file than you did... but I also used a patch in WM to make things louder so I'm guessing it's from that

I attached that 1 file just incase you want to look at it

Looks like some carrier-specific one for GSM devices .

GSM phones have a couple extra's I've seen, one for TMO and one for ATT...

but I'm on sprint's tp2 lol...

Anyways reporting that copying frx07.1's data.img over and using it with this one works flawlessly. Audio on phone call works well too. Still not as loud as in WM but a lot louder than on frx07.

I'll stick with this build from now on, so far for the past 10 minutes, haven't found a problem yet. Any news on how GB differs from Froyo? I don't keep up with changes lol

edit: saw on lock screen, at top it says T-CDMA 64 instead of the old XAndroid

edit: found out the market/youtube apps aren't showing up, but it's likely because I copied the data.img over. I'm remaking it and i'll try again

edit: while im remaking data.img and testing this more, any word on if this would work on froyo? I mean the audio patch and csv thing. Like if i replaced gb files with froyo files

update, noticed that the roaming indicator (the triangle) is on even though i disabled data roaming under network settings.

pretty sure I saw this in the froyo build too, but since I've switched over to this I haven't checked over there :S

I certainly don't have this problem.

You sure you're not roaming? That's a pretty ancient bug, that again I haven't experienced in a very looooooong time.

We're on the same device/network too...

EyeB 01-01-2012 02:50 PM

Re: [TESTING] XDAndroid GBX0B 2.3.7 Build

hm, i'm not sure if I'm roaming or not, but I see the triangle roaming icon and it says roaming indicator on the notificiation window

I'd had to restart phone to charge it and since then haven't had it. But I've seen it before on older builds, mostly when my connection was lost and had to reconnect

edit: noticed that power off/restart both seem to just restart into WM. I haven't seen the power off do an actual power off of phone yet.

edit: also noticed that phone call did drop/crash and then lost 3g/evdo signal. Restarted into android after going back to WM and since then I haven't had problem again. I know you mentioned it in first post but just saying I got same issue but only on first time. Maybe it needed to create a data file first? I can look but I don't know where. The proximity thing works great too, as responsive as in WM.

edit: For some reason or another, it seems like it's a crap shoot how much ram I get when I load into android with this one. Sometimes I'll have 90mb, and other times I can get as low as 60mb. This is on boot up without starting anything myself.

Can we get a long call test on this to see if it SoD's or panic reboots? Preferably a call longer than an hour.

So your wife has a laptop that you can't borrow for 20 mins... OK?

I've never had the problem you talked about with FRX07.1, but I don't think I've had any hour long+ phone calls either... At least not in a very long time. I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just saying if you want to know if this issue is not present for you, find out for yourself ;). I can say I've had about 10 minute calls without issue, but unless it's a conference call (which I usually do on gtalk) I really never am on calls longer than 10 minutes. Sorry... I guess I could call myself on gtalk and just leave the call up, lol.

hm only thing i can think of from a hour long call would be that the phone would be running for a hour :S might get hot enough to restart android? Seems like I've had that happen once in a while, it's rare that it restarts randomly but it happens

Yes.....World war fucking 3 broke out today when I told her I "had" to use it....she watched me the whole time, telling me to hurry up. And it took quite a bit longer than 20 minutes....more like an hour. As of right now it was worth it though as this build already is kicking ass. I updated the kernel to .35 but it still shows .27 in about phone....also cam is working contrary to what detule posted since the newest was posted on the 1st.

Rhodium 400 (Sprint CDMA)
Package from January 2nd at 2 AM.
CSV files from 2nd post.

I put it on the SD Card.
I copied over my ts-calibration file.
I ensured setup.txt was correct for my setup.

3.5 mm working with earbuds
Regular earpiece (phone held to ear) and speakerphone working.
Bluetooth sound routing properly with my Jawbone.
Made and received calls and sound quality was good.

I didn't take any pictures or video, per se, but I successfully used a bar code program - scans UPCs on products and uses Google Shopping to look up prices.

Facebook, Tumblr & Twitter seemed to work fine.

Only issue I really had was GPS lock. You could see on the status bar that the gps had fired up, but I never could establish a lock.

Other than that one issue, this seemed like a great build to me.

<edit>
So one thing I noticed, is that I hadn't sent any SMS messages. I tried that and while they did send and receive, I experienced three reboots, while doing the whole SMS thing.
</edit>

Best regards,
-boggsie

You are not on .35.

There's currently a problem with the 3.0 auto-build (the kernel and the modules up there don't have the same vermagic). We can get this sorted out as soon as WisTilt2 is back in town.

I haven't checked but I believe .39 and 3.1 are still built fine on the auto-build.

Lastly, to help differentiate between issues with GBX0B and issues with .39/3.0/3.1 I've started a thread on xda that's specific to these kernels.

Yeah sorry about the previous post, forgot to unzip twice. You were totally right about .35 kernel. Which kernel are you using?
Edit- After about an hour on the .35 kernel it locked up while in the PPCG app, so I went back to .27 kernel. Let me know if I need to pull logs next time I have time to try it again, that is if it will help.

I also didn't get gps to work, likewise my camera worked fine

I had no problems recieving texts, no word on sending though got no one to send too :( poor me lol

edit: sorry I may have spoken too soon on gps. I'm having issues with it in WM as well. I think it's the concrete buildings around lol. I won't be able to get clear of them until morning

edit: after leaving phone on window sill for about 10 minutes, I got a gps lock, so gps does work for me. And I was able to send a text message. However something odd happened, I saw while sending the text, the 3g dropped to 1x speed, and after sent, the roaming indicator came on. This may have been what happend when I mentioned the roaming indicator being on from a couple posts ago

edit: found out something with the roaming i think, to get it to stop roaming (switching airplane mode on/off didn't work) I had to change the mobile network settings->system settings-> and toggle between the automatic/home only. Switching to auto turned roaming off, and switch it back to roaming because I want it to be on sprint only. So I'm not sure if text message does something to the APN or not. I used the same settings on there as I did on frx07.1 and didn't have this problem (but I just don't text much either)

edit: is there an easy way to toggle on sleep indicator led? without using a different kernel? I happened to like that led so I knew if sleep was working

Re: [TESTING] XDAndroid GBX0B 2.3.7 Build

noticed something odd

I use advanced task manager to kill apps (yeah I know people say not too, but I do). Anyways it shows the amount of free memory as well. I noticed that the amount of total free memory decreases as the battery decreases. This could be because I've been using phone and apps aren't being properly freed but task manager kills same apps at start of battery as at end, but at end it frees up less. Wondering if there is some kind of deteriorating memory bug/memory leak in this android port.

could help explain why real android phones don't seem to get sluggish over time, but the port does. And might point to reason that phone might randomly restart if it runs too low on memory

sorry if you guys already know about this

edit: ok i rebooted android just now with low battery. I have around 90mb memory starting up android. But as I use it, it seems to drop even though I kill the apps, some just don't seem to be dropping out of memory to free it up

Sc/ant864 01-03-2012 09:24 AM

Anyone else notice when scrolled all the way to the top or bottom of a page, then an extra slow swipe will cause a phantom screen glitch? It doesn't affect performance, just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and I wanted to share in case its a bug.

Are you clearing your app cache? I don't know if task killer has one but if not there are a few stand alone apps in the market.

That's a Gingerbread 'feature'. It shows when you reach the beginning/end of pretty much anything...

I noticed it on black screens like in settings that it "lights up" when scrolled all the way. So I thought that may have something to do with it doing it on white background without the "light up". Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Not sure if you know, but Android has a built-in task killer (lowmemorykiller), which is fairly sophisticated. In addition to being integrated into the system environment, it can reach processes that your generic task-killer app can not. There was some work that went into optimizing it with the release GBX0B, and it should now operate at a level more suited for our devices.

A much more effective alternative to task-killer apps are scripts (like V6 supercharger) that work with lowmemorykiller, rather than in parallel.

I didn't know this, I'll look into the V6 thing. The reason I want a task killer is because I load up enough apps and they don't self close. On TP2 anyways it seems to make OS sluggish and I start to get the force crash/wait alerts. So if I close tasks, I get fewer of the alerts

Trying a different kernel couldn't hurt, but probably the most helpful thing would be to set up logs running during your long call. Just before you start the call start dumping these three logs to a file:
logcat -v time
logcat -v time -b radio
cat /proc/kmsg

and let those run while you do your call, then when your call freezes up package them up and post them, preferably to the bug report with a link here.
You may want to filter your personal information out of the logs before posting them, especially the radio log will have stuff like your phone number, the phone number of the person you called, and other stuff.

Thanks! I'll jump on this tomorrow when I know I'll make a long call, I take it I'll need to do this with a program via computer and not a logcat app on the phone like Catlog, no? Any suggestions for program choices?
