Honestly there's not much left to test/hash out with this build. There's a lingering netloc issue, and some other random minor problems/updates that I need to bake in (like detule's GPS fix, and some other camcorder fix for newer kernels).

But yes, it's much better than FRX ;). Hoping to release a final GB build soon...

Nope.

At least I seriously doubt it. You should know by now I don't do ETA's ;). It's ready when it's ready.

I saw in the nand thread that .27 had a battery driver update. What would it take to be able to have audio work with this new .27?

Audio work with this new .27...?

That code will probably not work with HaRET, I already spoke with ACL about it. No clue what audio has to do with it tho.

Well you do have
  • Keep in mind, autobuild .27 kernels will produce no audio in this build...
in the first page. So I was left with the belief that this new .27 would suffer from no audio... I am left to assume that I have misunderstood this.

Oh, that was just a warning because the .27 autobuild kernels didn't have the updated acoustic code. They do now, I should probably remove that line...

It was to direct people to use the bundled kernel if they wanted .27... because if they tried to use an autobuild kernel it would produce no audio. Again, that no longer applies so I should remove it. Thanks.

My Amazon music collection gets all muxed up (sorts albums and artists poorly) in multiple applications (alarm, amazon player) with the default included .27 kernel. When I use 3.2 (and IIRC, .39 too), all the albums and artists are recognized. I can't imagine how a kernel would affect something so superficial, but that's my experience. Hope it helps.

Can't help with your playback issues though, never had that.

Verizon CDMA world version - flashed with unlocked GSM radio (using in Tmo)

using the build from the first post in the first page..

The speed s much better than FRX7.1 - at least that's what I felt. much snappier and smooth..

One thing I noticed was - when i restart into Winmo - the time in WinMo's is 4 hrs + the current time. I corrected the time twice - but it happened the third time too I restarted into WinMo.

This is a very old bug that's addressed in the FAQ mate.

Honestly surprised you didn't experience it in FRX...

Re: [TESTING] XDAndroid GBX0B 2.3.7 Build

Huh. I don't remember seeing this in FRX 7.0/7.1..

Other thing I noticed is - I am not hearing any ringtones when headphones is plugged in - it s working fine with music.. When the headphones are not connected - it works without any issue.

Re: [TESTING] XDAndroid GBX0C 2.3.7 Build

Looking for some input here. I've got a Sprint Touch Pro2 (on SERO of course :) that I'm trying to keep refreshed as much as possible. I've been using the FRX build for several months now and am fairly happy with it. I tried the GBX0B version, but ran into some instabilities and decided to wait. Now I see there's a new GBX0C and it seems like it might be time to switch. But, I've got a few questions.

1. I see references that the downloadable image has kernal .27, but that there are others all the way up to 3.1. From a speed and stability, should I be looking to use a different one? If so, a pointer on where to read up on them/download them/etc would be greatly appreciated.

2. I'm using Sharkeys ROM on the WM6.5 side. When I look in the \windows\ directory, there are no CSV files. Is this something with the Sharkey ROM, or the Sprint rom, or what? When I tested GBX0B, I just used the ones in the second post (AcousticRHOD400CSV's.zip), but I don't know if that's the best choice. Or do I need to somehow extract the CSV files from a stock Sprint Rom?

3. I've seen references to using a specific brand (and speed) of MicroSDHC card to get the fastest performance. Speed is one issue I've had with the Froyo version, especially in answering the phone. If I'm using another app (like an e-book) it might take 4-5 rings before the slide-to-answer pops up and I can answer the phone. Any pointers to more discussion on this (or direct experience?) I've currently got a 16GB Class 6 RiDATA card which I'm guessing isn't the fastest. I know some cards are great for large files, but blow for small, and others are the reverse so any tips would be great.

Thanks to all the devs on this. New life for an old phone is wonderful!

I am using the 3.2 kernel, and it seems slightly more stable, but you can swap them around and see what works best for you. Check this post on the first page for more options.

I am using the cvs files from the first page. You should be ok I think using them.

Go here to read up on the sd card issue. SD Strange-results - or - How I learned to love CM7 on SD - Dec-11 results compiled! - xda-developers
It does make a noteworthy difference. How much depends on how crappy your current read/write times are. I am currently running with a sandisk 4gb cl4 card, and am happy with the overall speed. It is very close to the speeds I got with the NAND build.

Re: [TESTING] XDAndroid GBX0C 2.3.7 Build

Ok - It's stable so far..

1. Got a SOD yesterday for no reason - did not use the mobile for a couple of hours and then could not turn the screen back on. - Calls were routed to voicemail when this happened.
2. (sometimes)Ringtone not audible on earphones/speaker when earphones are plugged in. When I hear some music - (sometimes)am not getting any tone or anything for incoming calls.
3. Out of 150 odd songs only 7 are getting detected in any music software I use. I am pretty sure I had a similar prob before - don't remember how I resolved it.
4. The phone was fast for the first day or 2 - then it became gradually slow. Do not have any widgets in home screens, only gmail sync - android launcher replaced with ADW launcher - all animations switched OFF - still it 's slow now that it was 2 days before.

using everything from first page except for the CVS's which i copied from my phone.

I did not format my SD card before trying this build- will do it today sometime and see if there is a difference..

np. As far as bundling these builds goes, I think the only thing left on my plate is the CSV debacle, and perhaps the wifi bug where some have to manually deploy a wifi-nvram.txt file...

Other than that, the remaining bugs seem mostly RIL or kernel related. Don't hold your breath on the RIL bugs...

Keep me posted on issues guys. I haven't seen anything critical that would hold up GBX01 yet...

3.5mm... mic? I guess it has a mic plug in it, if you have a special dongle...

Most just use it as the headphone jack. But yes, it's worked for a very long time...

Try formatting the sd card using the hp tool that Arrrghhh has provided the link to, fat32, full format and put all the files back. Not to mention grab the latest build that Arrrghhh, detule and other devs have made for us.

Nope. Phone.apk. Remember, Linux is CaSe SeNsItIvE - so be careful, it is Phone.apk not phone.apk ;).

Code:

cd /system/app

Yes. I know that Linux is case sensitive. I just can't find the file anywhere. I am using droid explorer to look in system\app, but I sure don't see it. Do you?

Edit.
Ok I did a manual pull with adb rather than using droid explorer, and I got the file. Not sure why it didn't show up in Droid explorer.

My guess is Phone.apk is signed with the xdandroid keys and making changes (other than re-compiling your own build) will likely not yield the result you are hoping for.

Well then perhaps someonewith access to the xdandroid keys might be kind enough to mod the phone.apk to allow roaming. I found these directions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...35#post7625035

Sorry, I doubt that we'll modify something as essential as Phone.apk to force roaming...

Edit - perhaps if Google adopts this, but I don't see them adopting this. I don't see many people clamoring for this feature. Are you just in a low service area that constantly goes in and out of roaming, and perhaps roaming is better? I thought you could force it thru the ## menu, but I've never really tried. I don't think my phone has ever been in roaming - it's either in service or not lol.

I am just on the edge of a sprint tower. I get just enough signal that I don't roam, but miss calls. It is a pain. It kills my battery too.

I don't know of any way to force roaming via a ## menu. If you have any more info I would love to know it.

I didn't expect it to be included in the package for everyone, but maybe someone would recompile the phone.apk with the mod and the correct keys and stick it out here as-is no support so we could drop it in ourselves and try it.

I take it back -> what you are trying to do *might* work depending on how that compile/de-compile tool handles signing.

Good luck.

By the way, creating a setting that says "Force roam" doesn't mean your phone will be forced to roam. The question is where do those commands actually end up (the ril likely) and do we support them.

To continue my monologue:
Apparently we do http://gitorious.org/xdandroid/hardw...ril.c#line4008
At least we support some mode "1" which I guess corresponds to the stubbed out "Affiliated Networks", which is between 0 (Home only) and 2 (Automatic).

wizardknight, this is basically what I was talking about. Assuming there's a GUI way to force roaming, there's always a 'backdoor' way as well... as that GUI method pretty much has to be using the backdoor method as well.

So if you get into the ## menu under phone (I can't remember the sequence right now...) you should be able to switch the state of the radio on the fly. Obviously a GUI method would be much easier, especially if you're constantly having to flip it manually.

You're using the correct app for the correct kernel? I guess .27 and .39+ use different locations, and there's 2 different apps. I included both in the 0C bundle.

Edit - Also, the phone will come out of sleep to update various apps. Only if you have all radios disabled and all sync's disabled will you truly get 100% sleep.

i got the correct kernel/app match i think, because the other one didn't work lol
I'm using the 27 one with the kernel that comes with the zip file

I'm thinking it is coming out of sleep to update things, kind of looks like it from how it turns on/off. been trying to find the apps that sync/update though :S
