Uhm.. so all your texts pop up in Chinese? Did you change the IME input or something!?!

LED indicates sleep, read the FAQ.

You need to make sure you have it set to vibe in the messaging settings, and in general settings.

Thanks! This works much better than powering off the phone to get back into Windows. Love having Android on my Windows phone but still needed access to some of my Windows apps.

I use Fast Reboot when I just want to reset the Android environment, and Quick Boot when I want to reboot to WinMo. Both work great - the nice thing about Fast Reboot is that after running it, apps seem to respond more quickly (perhaps the freed memory helps?). Both are available on the Market...just search for each title.

I'm assuming you're getting texts with some weird character encoding, and it's handling it poorly. I need more information from you, and probably some logs.

arrrghhh, I came across this as I was modding my G Tablet: [STICKY][Patch][Rom]Malware Exploit for all pre-Gingerbread devices - xda-developers

The Mother Of All Android Malware Has Arrived: Stolen Apps Released To The Market That Root Your Phone, Steal Your Data, And Open Backdoor | Android News, Reviews, Apps, Games, Phones, Tablets, Tips, Mods, Videos, Tutorials - Android Police

Supposedly all "pre-Gingerbread" devices are vulnerable. So if you install one of the apks listed, it can steal info from your TP2.

I see that there's a fix here for the Epic: [Patch]Malware Exploit for all pre-Gingerbread phones - xda-developers. Not sure if it's the same for the TP2 we're using:

Quote:

As you can see androidpolice.com reports on this backdoor and roots and steals personal information. The apps are removed from the market but that doesn't mean they got them all. Attached is a flashable fix as suggested by androidpolice.com

So users can flash this .zip or simply create a blank file called profile and place it in /system/bin/ (developers are encouraged to include this file in future releases. A blank file is not going to affect performance at all)

Alternate methods:

Using 'adb shell' or terminal emulator (should work on any ROOTED phone) as suggest by xaueious here
Code:
$ su
su
# remount rw
Remounting /system (/dev/stl9) in read/write mode
# touch /system/bin/profile
# chmod 644 /system/bin/profile
#
Alternate 2:
Download blank profile file from here (or create one and name it profile)
Use a program like Root Explorer to copy it to /system/bin/
Then longpress on it and check the permissions should be read/write for user, read for group, and read for others.

Alternate 3:
cyansmoker has put together an apk for the patch here https://market.android.com/details?i...oiddreamkiller

Thanks for pointing this out photoframd and androidpolice.com for investigating and reporting!
Should stinebd fix this on FRX06? Just something I saw. I don't have any of those apks listed installed but I'm going to fix it anyways on my phone just in case.

Interesting. I don't have any of those apps installed either (LOL @ Screaming Sexy Japanese Girls BTW) but that is interesting. If there's a fix for a security hole it should probably be applied. I'll let him know, thanks!

For whatever reason every so often your data.img file will get corrupted and you need to blow out your data.img again. Unfortunately that means you've gotta set up all your apps again, so before you blow it out if you haven't already, you can back up all of your apps by downloading titanium backup from market and use it to backup all your apps and also to reload all your apps again. Makes it a little less painful. But you don't need to reinstall the entire build when that happens.

For backing up with Titanium Backup? It's really not hard. Download the app, go to backup/restore tab, and hit menu-> batch. You'll see all the options you have there, do a full backup.

Just delete it when ur in winmo. Go to wherever haret is located and delete the data.img. when u reboot to android it will generate a brand new data.img.

I'm not aware of anyone else experiencing this issue, so perhaps a format and fresh start is in order? Not sure what to suggest at this point.

Any recent updates? The first post in this thread still shows the last update as March 26.

Or if this is not the right place, please let me know where I can find more timely Android builds for the TP2 CDMA.

Thanks!

The reason the word "stable" is in the title is because arrrghhh doesn't just throw random pieces of untested code in the builds. If you want to be on the bleeding edge you'll need to download and implement them yourself. Only once a feature or improvement is proven to be relatively stable will it get included in an official build of xdandroid or the kernel, and at that time arrrghhh will likely include it here.

I approve of this post :D.

I post the most 'stable' stuff for everyone - however there is a lot of testing stuff flying around currently. I'm trying to pull all the merge requests and test them, and it seems like stinebd has accepted most if not all of them - so we should have some pretty big updates in the pipeline.

I also don't do small incremental updates - sorry. Not much has changed in the autobuild-realm of things which is what I make these builds off of. New stuff is in the pipeline, please be patient!

Okay, that makes sense.

I just wasn't sure if this was still "the" thread to watch for (stabile) updates. I just read somewhere about how much progress is being made on a daily basis and wanted to get my hands on said progress.

I can be patient. It's just really hard when it's soooo close to being my fulltime OS. If it weren't for the random reboots during inactivity, I'd be fine with the current build.

I don't get any random reboots, although there are many reasons for them - are you getting full reboots to WinMo, or "mini" reboots as I like to call them where you suddenly see the boot animation again?

Neither *should* happen obviously, but the reasons can vary. Reboots to WinMo could be anything from an actual bug in the kernel, to your SD card becoming unavailable and causing the system to reboot - a while back I was getting a lot of these and I found (thru logs) that it was the SD card.

Reboots within Android usually seem to happen to me when the system hangs. For example, if I'm downloading several apps from the Market and if several try to install themselves at the same time, usually that causes the system to freeze up and eventually I just see the flying droids again.

We're working to fix all issues, but obviously there's a lot of factors. A lot of stuff is in testing, if you feel you can help out then jump in. If you want to wait, then no biggie - this thread will get updated when new stuff comes thru the pipeline. Sometimes it just takes a while to integrate code, as we support many, many devices and we have to be sure that all devices work with the new code that gets committed. We're working very hard to prevent regressions, so it takes time. Thanks!

I don't get reboots in WinMo. Only when I've been in Android for a while and put phone away (either pocket or backpack), then after a little while when I go to get my phone, I'll find it back in WinMo. Or sometimes it'll be stuck on the black screen of death (where the screen is black, the backlight is on, but buttons don't do anything). In that case I have to hit the reset button to get back to WinMo and then re-run Haret.

Otherwise the stability does seem to be getting better. I used to get more frequent "soft" resets (animated Android logo), but not so much anymore.

I do appreciate all your (and other's) hard work. I wasn't trying to be a complainer, just wanted to make sure I'm monitoring the right thread to get the latest stuff.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't mind your comments, I don't think you're a 'complainer' :p.

Anyhoo, re-reading my post I'm not sure where I wasn't clear - reboots to WinMo = you were in Android, and next you look at your phone it's in WinMo. It's not a reboot within WinMo, it's a reboot to WinMo. Hopefully that is clear, but from your description we are on the same page.

Without seeing any logs from these reboots, I would just hazard a guess and suggest trying a different SD card.

As for the SoD's where the screen is black and nothing (and I mean NOTHING) will wake it back up - it doesn't respond to usb/adb connections, sliding the phone doesn't work, etc - most of these lockups are related to the RIL, which there is a new RIL in testing that has almost completely resolved this issue.

I'm hoping the new RIL will get integrated soon, as that will be a big boost to the system for everyone. Lots was changing with the RIL frequently, but I think it's almost "done". I will post an update to this build when it's all integrated, you can rest assured of that ;).

Any apps installed? This is from a fresh install of the build? Do you have another SD card to try? Have you changed anything from what's in the bundle?

Just thought I'd check in and see when the next full update might be released and if that would include working BT. Also, if I'm asking a duplicate question, I apologize as I don't have time right now to review the thread for the answer to this question, but I'm having difficulty getting exchange server to sync with Android. It works fine with my Outlook and my MightyRom on my TP2, but nothings seems to work on Froyo. Any thoughts?

BT probably isn't going to be functional in the next release. Gonna be a while before that's working it seems.

Exchange, dunno. Google Sync works great. If you have a corporate Exchange server, you might want to talk to the admin. Again, I don't have an Exchange server to test with, but Google Sync works great.

FRX06 - No Data Connection - Carrier Provisioning - Costa Rica

Thank you devs for FRX06, my first Android experience & fun to play with on my Tilt 2.

I searched the FAQ & this thread for Data Connection and Carrier Provisioning to no avail. I live in Costa Rica and my carrier is ICE Celular (the only network in the country @ the present, same band specs as AT&T), using EDGE for data which works fine in WM 6.5.3. I dunno how to get data connection working in FRX06, browser & Gmail app says no data connection.

Using WiFi browser works fine as well as Gmail app. On Home I can see my carrier's name.

Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Data is enabled. Network operators > it auto searches but does not show the carrier's name. Is that normal? Also tried Select automatically and it says "Registered on network" but still no data joy. :( Also tried "Use only 2G networks" as I don't have a 3G account, still no go. I rebooted after selecting the settins & still "No network connection".

Other questions: is it possible not to have to slide to unlock every time the screen turns off? I did not see any option for that in Set up screen lock.

Looking for suggestions for a good task manager & a widget to show free RAM available on the taskbar.

are you using the correct startup.txt for the Tilt 2? should be something like this:

Code:

set ramsize 0x10000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set mtype 2292
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "lcd.density=240 msmvkeyb_toggle=off gsensor_axis=2,1,3 force_cdma=0 pm.sleep_mode=1 physkeyboard=tilt2"
boot

also, in the same settings section you mentioned, there is "APN Settings" which you can add your provider's info

Don't worry about free RAM with froyo, it is irrelevant.

Yes, I use FRX06_Full_Bundle_25.3.2011\FRX06\STARTUPS\RHOD\RH OD300_Tilt2 > startup.txt with same content as you posted. It's in the memory card's root as well as all the content of FRX06.

Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Access Point Names > opens a tab with the title APNs in a gray bar but it's a black screen under it with nothing to click nor to type into. Tapping that black screen does not bring up anything.

Other questions: is it possible not to have to slide to unlock every time the screen turns off? I did not see any option for that in Set up screen lock.

Looking for suggestions for a good task manager & a widget to show free RAM available on the taskbar.

For the slide to unlock disable, you'll have to go with some third party app - sounds crazy, but it seems to be the case.

As for data, did you setup the APN correctly? Since you have an odd carrier, you'll probably need to put in a valid APN for it.

Also, does your carrier require any tricks to get thru to the open internet like a proxy?

I played for an hour with Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Access Point Names and the settings to no joy.

"...Since you have an odd carrier" - ain't odd for us as it's a state monopoly so everybody is using it here. I'm not a programmer but here is a pointer for future built where I can see my icecellular carrier: an accurate working list of APN's for cyanogen (and other?) builds (Android). How could I use this .xml in FRX06?

OR: this registry key from WM 6.5.3 & EDGE data settings that works on my Tilt 2. How could I import this in FRX06 or translate the binary data so I could input it in Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Access Point Names and the settings?

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\State\Connectivity]
"APN Info"=hex:31,00,2c,00,69,00,63,00,65,00,63,00,65,0 0,6c,00,75,00,6c,00,61,\
00,72,00,00,00,00,00

Or is there an other key I could export from WM to import in FRX06 to fix the data connection problem?

"For the slide to unlock disable, you'll have to go with some third party app..." - Any suggestion, name or link maybe?

It is an odd carrier - not sure anyone from Costa Rica has used our build before, so to say you're unique is an understatement :p.

We use that same APN list, but you're welcome to try it yourself.

No clue, as I said previously you're the only one that I know of that is using this carrier. Once you get the correct APN settings, I bet it'll work.

I like the S2U, so I've never looked for such an app. Search the Market.

Re: FRX06 - No Data Connection FIX - Invalid APNs - Costa Rica GSM Edge APN

I formatted the memory card & reinstalled FRX06 as per steps in post #1. As described above, no data for my carrier ICE Celular in Costa Rica. Used Wifi to download APN Backup & Restore & made a backup before tweaking the APN settings.

Surprise, surprise, my carrier is one of the 7 Invalid APNs out of the 940 in FRX06's APN list according to APN Backup & Restore:
Quote:

APN Backup & Restore:
Successful: 933
Failed: 7
Invalid APNs: China mobile, Fido, Fido MMS, ICE Celular (mine), MASmovil, MASmovil MMS, Simyo DE.
So if your carrier is included in that list, do it manually in: Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Access Point Names > tap Windows hardware button > New APN. I suggest adding your initials to the APN's name to make it easier to search & don't forget to Windows button > Save after creating it. You could use said APN Backup & Restore to save it & create an .XML file with the correct data.

For Costa Rica GSM/Edge/GPRS the APN settings are:
Name: ICE JB (my initials)
APN: icecelular
Proxy: 172.27.10.4
Port: 8080
MMS proxy: 172.27.10.4
MMS port: 8080
MCC: 712
MNC: 01
Authentication type: PAP
----> And leave all the rest blank.

In APN Backup & Restore xml file created after fixing the settings:
<apn name="ICE JB" numeric="71201" mcc="712" mnc="01" apn="icecelular" user="" server="" password="" proxy="127.27.10.4" port="8080" mmsproxy="127.27.10.4" mmsport="8080" mmsprotocol="null" mmsc="" type="" />

Instead of what's in not working in the current FRX06's APN list:
<apn name="ICE Celular" numeric="712null" mcc="712" mnc="null" apn="icecelular" user="" server="null" password="null" proxy="null" port="null" mmsproxy="null" mmsport="null" mmsprotocol="null" mmsc="null" type="" />

*****

To see the entire FRX06 APN list, swich APN, backup & other stuff, the free APN Manager in the Market works fine for me.

Re: FRX06 - Kill Slide to Unlock & Landscape on Boot

If like me you are tired of having to slide to unlock every time after the screen turns off get the free No Lock in the Market. It's a simple toggle switch to disable/enable the auto lock "feature" as there are no way in FRX06 to disable it or enter a long delay in Settings > Location & security settings > Setup screen lock. :( If you are also using Super Manager, disable Auto Memory Cleanup in it's Settings otherwise it will break No Lock.

S2U or S2U2 does not return any results in the Market. Is there a version of S2U2 compatible with Android?

By default when booting FRX06, Home is in landscape mode. If tapping the back hardware key, I get this error:
Quote:

The process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly. > Force close.
Unlocking while still in landscape mode & then hitting the back key brings the portrait mode w/o error.

That's a known issue, fixed in Wistilt2's test kernels. The fix has not been published in the main repos yet, unfortunately.

Never saw that before. I guess you have the Music widget on your launcher, it's probably choking on the screen rotation. There are a few apps out there that seem to have a hard time coping with auto-rotate. Dunno where the problem is, since they all work fine on other phones.

Music widget is on Home 4 by default in FRX06 along with Market widget. I did not add it to launcher. BTW I get "Your phone does not have an SD card inserted if I tap on "Touch to select music".

Format your card using the HP Tool. Full format, FAT32. You can backup the data on the card & restore, or just wipe and start over, your choice.

I know you said you just formatted it, but I'm betting it was with the build in Windows or WinMo utilities - which are broken, and why I recommend the HP Tool linked above. It's also in the first post...

Well, it was fixed... but the way he fixed it was hackish. Userland is the problem, not the kernel - and the way WisTilt2 fixed it caused issues with the stylus. So he reverted that change... It's fixed in GB already, so it's definitely a userland issue ;).

I'd say his issue is patience - to Joe, just wait on boot. Lots of things happening in the bg when the phone first starts.

Sorry, I felt like making Slide to Unlock a stupid acronym... Shouldn't have done that, I didn't mean to insinuate it was an app on the market, or even closely related to the WinMo app you mention. My fault!

We get our APN list from CyanogenMod. Post your update to that list (which should help out everyone that uses CM as well) and when XDAndroid does another pull of the APN list, it'll be fixed there too.
