Incoming calls: google voice Vs. carrier?
How can you distinguish between incoming calls from google voice and your carrier? When I get calls, I don't see anything that would let me know if it's to my carriers # (sprint) or to my google voice #.
I don't want to set incoming calls from GV to display the GV #, because then I can't see the caller ID. Is there a way now to set a ring tone for each one and see each caller ID? Thanks!

You can set gv in the setting online using a broswer. To display only you GV number in the caller id. That way all gv numbers come up as one number. To me this helps but also hurts at times. Just thought you might like to know if you hadnt seen that setting

Re: Incoming calls: google voice Vs. carrier?
Yeah Drew, the OP mentioned that he didn't want to do that because of the fact that you only know it is someone calling your GV number, not who they are.
One would think it wouldn't be difficult to make an app that looked at the caller and told you what number they called in on. I dunno... |

Re: Incoming calls: google voice Vs. carrier?
When I have time I'll start looking into how an app could do this. But I don't think I know enough to be honest. Because you would have to have access to Voice, and have your program react to it's status. Sounds complicated.

the only way to really do this would be having voip setup on the phone and gv tring it for a bit before your cell #.

Re: Incoming calls: google voice Vs. carrier?
I only use my google voice number and usually have to look up my actual cell number when I have to contact the cell company, I have it set to show my gv number and the call is announced, so if they aren't in my contact list already, they have to tell me who they are, then I get a choice of 1 to answer or 2 to send to voicemail, a little extra step, but 1) I like the ability to send to voicemail and then listen to them leave the message, then I know if I need to call right back or can wait, and 2) my gv number is set to one of my 15 fav numbers on my carrier so all inbound calls are free, and since I use the google callback app when I call out, all outbound calls are free, by doing this, I have 3 phones (2 android and 1 regular) sharing 500 minutes a month, and I think in the last 6 months the most minutes used between all 3 phones was 100 minutes (cause my wife was calling her mother directly thinking she was using google, I taught her how to use the callback app and now hardly any minutes are used)

Yeah gv is pretty sweet. There was an update a day or three ago but it was bug fixes.
