Today’s the day, folks. We enjoyed a lengthy, healthy discussion about 8pen last night, and it’s now available for download.

Boy are the makers of this stupid keyboard putting a all out campaign on the net.Lets see sprintusers, xda, here, you name it the hype is trying to sell some of these.
Truth be told i tried it free off a site you can get this stuff free to try it out and did for 2 days and it sucks. Why you would use this over Swype or smart keyboard is past me but hey go for it if you want to waste your time and money with it. |

Re: [APP] 8pen Now Available for Download
The thing is, it essentially uses gesture recognition to identify characters. But if you are going to do that, why use an arbitrary coordinate system when you could just have the phone recognize gestures that draw the actual letters? 8Pen makes you learn shapes that are sort of variations on the shape of a capital G. How is that easier than just drawing each letter.
But then we've tried and abandoned that sort of system already with the old Palm Pilots. |

Re: [APP] 8pen Now Available for Download
Googled it, tried it, liked it, but I've got Swype. In the time it takes to write "YOU" with 8pen I can write "YOU ARE HERE" with Swype. If I had some wack a$$ phone with a ticky tack iphone-style keyboard I would definitely give this a serious try, but Swype and the slide-out keyboard are more than what I need...
Cool idea though. |
