Sounds to me like the "data" is not on.
Go to comm manager to check and see if it is on...

Also, go to menu/connection settings in the "internet sharing" app,
Then go to "advanced" tab on bottom to see link for "select networks",
to see that they both (or at least top one) show the carrier you are on..
Just a stab in the dark from here, so hope that helps...
