OK dude all that matters right now is your free memory.
I usually notice slowdowns if my free mem drops below 50mb.
Yes it is a jamm up of your database.
More probably from your backup than having to do with anything else.
Are you using activesynce?

Try using PPCPimBackup, and along the way check the binary box as well.

Before doing so, delete any posts in your sms threads that contain a picture mail post, OR delete the whole thread...
Then do the backup.
If you do not delete the picmail posts in your sms thread, you will experience unorganized posts in all your sms.
It is also the most likely culprit of jamming your database, since the pics are never backed up with the texts.

Do a hard reset and restore using PPCPimBackup.

You should now enjoy a better experience...
