Manila Q&A <> Updated 2-16-10

All this info is coming from past experience. if anyone has any corrected info just post and i will update.

Q: What is Manila?

A: Manila is a user interface for your Phone. Windows Mobile is your Operating system and Manila is just a interface to use your phone. Like titanium, or sqb mobile shell.

Q: Are Manila & TouchFlo the Same Thing?
A: Yes. TouchFlo3D aka TF3D use to be the "friendly name for manila"
The newer manila version's are referred to as HTC Sense, not TF3D

Q: What is HTC Sense?
A: HTC Sense is part of the Later Version of Manila 2.1 & All of Manila 2.5
HTC Sense tries to get the user more in touch with their phone. like adding weather on home screen, weather animations all over screen and footprint & twitter Tabs.

Q: Can i change my manila by using a cab file?
A: No. Manila is built into the ROM that is flashed on the phone

Q: Are there different versions of Manila?
A: Yes, The touch pro 2 came out of the box with manila 2.1 without Sense
Most ROM's that are available in the Upgrades Thread feature Manila 2.1 & 2.5 - Both with Sense

Q: How do i find my Manila Verison
A: This is How on Manila 2.5
From the Manila Home Screen goto Settings tab....about phone....software info...manila version is there....

This is How on Manila 2.1
From the manila home screen goto start....settings....system....device information...software information..manila version is there...

Q: What are the Current Manila Version's for Manila 2.1
A: Here are the one's I am familiar with:
2.11919
2.11920

2.11921

Q: What are the Current Manila Version's for Manila 2.5

A: Here are the one's I am familiar with:
2.51919
2.51920
2.51921
2.51922
2.51923
2.52011 (Newest version off Topaz, Very Fast!)
2.52012 (A refined topaz version.. Document & Footprint tabs are back!)

Q: Which Manila has the weather animations the cover whole home screen?
A: Both Manila 2.1 & 2.5 w/ SENSE support this

Q: What Manila supports background animations?
A: Manila 2.5 Only

Q: What are background animations?
A: They are nice animations that appear on the background of home screen.

Q: What is Difference Between HTC Sense 2.1 & HTC Sense 2.5?
A: Here are the Known Differences
-2.5 Has a Widget Themed Home Screen (For Shortcuts)
-2.5 Has Social Networking (Twitter, Facebook, Footprint & YouTube & Facebook Uploader built into HTC Album)
-2.5 Has Deep Roots in the ROM itself. Meaning it tries to control many of the phones functions through Manila. For Example, the settings tab in manila are much more expansive to many features that control phone. text messaging is built into manila even though MMS does not work properly yet. things like that show that HTC is trying to TAKE OVER the OS, so to speak....
-2.5 is Designed for 1GHz Processor and might be too much for TP2. The Later Manila 2.5 versions are making it a lot quicker..

UPDATE* Manila 2.52012 is just as fast as Manila 2.1 In my opinion. Works Great! Recommended

Q: Does Manila 2.1 have shorcuts on home screen any time soon?
A: Who knows?? Rostrain is working on it, but has not produced anything as of now..
Link to his thread is HERE

Q: Does Manila 2.1 support Landscape?
A: Yes

Q: Does Manila 2.5 support Landscape?
A: YES. It did not for a while, but now landscape works 100% Perfect on All tabs
check out a lot of screenshots HERE

Q: Whats the problem with MMS?
A: I'm not exactly sure, but i know you have to revert back to windows mobile MMS to get to work.

Q: Is Manila 2.5 Stable?
A: Yes. 100% Stable.

Q: Is there a Manila 2.6?
A: Yes, but it is for Leo or Device with 1Ghz or better Processor. It's basically 2.5 with support of the OMAP processor & a few new features & updates. Here is a LINK to a video of Manila 2.6. i didnt see that much difference between 2.5 & 2.6

Q: What is MaxManila?
A: MaxManila is a Addon for Manila 2.5 - It adds many different options for your manila home screen. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

FEATURES
  • 8 clock arrays + 1 large analog
  • Call History and Calendar wt possible up to 3 appointments
  • Weather on demand
  • 4 notification icons (Call History, Calendar, SMS, Email)
  • 12 / 16 / 20 shortcuts
  • Panoramic / BG4all / Default wallpapers
  • Retractable tab icons
  • Full screen mode
  • AutoLock and AutoMute function (orientation activated)
  • Transparent slider effect (front tab icon removed)
  • Support landscape mode for 19222xxx
  • Rotation animation
  • And many more.......

Click here to see it on WinMo 6.5 & WinMo 6.5.1

Q: Are there different MaxManila Version's?
A: Yes. The latest is MM 3.0. It supports a full screen manila, VGA/WVGA and is very very nice.
Check the details out HERE

Q: What is the Fastest Manila Version for TP2
A: 2.52012 is the fastest manila i have seen on touch pro 2. this build must have completely redesigned everything, because it compares to speed of manila 2.1..... YES I SAID IT!!! AND ITS TRUE!!!
Need to send a quick sms..... NO MORE WAITING..... slide to sms/new/switch to landscape in a snap to use keyboard and sms is on its way...
Need to upload a quick pic to facebook.....NO MORE WAITING....slide to pics/click it/album comes up in a flash/upload to facebook...
Those are just a couple examples of things that i always waited on before when using pre manila 2.52011. and i know that a few seconds of waiting isnt the end of the world, but it adds up when you use your phone a lot....
The only other manila version i have seen quicker is 2.51921 (when energyROM used chainfire compression)
Even Windows Mobile is quicker. i guess because the manila is not demanding so much...

Manila Editing Q & A

Q: What is Manila Editing?
A: Manila Editing is taking the "manila" files that make up the interface and doing just about whatever you want to them. you can change properties for just about anything and manipulate in many ways.

Q: What is a Manila File?
A: A Manila File is basically a mask for different types of files. Here is the breakdown
- QTC - Image file
- mode9 - need a mode9 editor to edit. contains many properties to change
- xml - contains coding
- lua - a complicated script that need a decompiler/compiler to edit

Q: How do i see what's in the manila file?
A: You need a manlia Editor. they have one's specialized for image editing and mode9 editing.

I am attaching a mode9 editor & CFC GUI Image Editor.
mode9 editor is a bit more powerful, but CFC GUI is great for just manipulating images.

Q: Can i Edit Manila?
A: Oh yea....it's not that bad.

Q: How do i get started with Editing Manila Images

Q: How do i get started with Editing Manila Mode9
