Initial program loading.

Page loading is very fast. And it isn't like it loads pieces of the page, it sits for a second, and then the whole page is available right away.

Well, people who signed up less than 4 hours before me have been invited. Hopefully won't be long now.

For some reason I wanted to install to cab again (still haven't received my text) with some hope of a freak accident and now instead of it giving the error it was giving before, now it says "Your phone number does not match our registered users. Please register, reinstall, and retry." I wonder if its reading a reg entry, etc and if that could be changed to the number of someone who already received it?? Just throwing out ideas

Let's keep discussions regarding cracking, etc. off the open forums.

Thanks,
Coz

It seems that the majority of content browsed for on this program are handled and processed on the server side. That's why this browser works so well. The skyfire server is formatting the page for you, to take some of the strain off of your device. It is similar to deepfish.

That's why if you do not have the credentials to log into their system, this browser will not work. Therefore any sort of hack is impossible, and that's why users like me and quija have not shared the cab with you. It simply won't work.

This is most likely also the reason the beta test is so small. They probably don't yet have the hardware to support thousands upon thousands of users. When they do, you'll probably get a beta invite.

Overloading and crashing the servers would only inhibit the beta process as they would get a flood of emails for something they already know is an issue. I think they are looking for initial constructive feedback, then they will upgrade to more servers with a new release. It may be a while before we see anything.

There is one easy way to find out. Place .cab on mem card. Disable all connections to the outside world (phone, wifi). Install .cab file and try to open. If you get the message, then it is registry locked. If not it is server side. I doubt it is server side. That would entail sending the phone number of the device to the server every time the program loads or times out on the server. This is a lot of info to keep track of. I am guessing registry locked (call me an optimist but hey).

However I think cracking the file would only make things worse. Once the cracked file is out, thousands of users will install and crash the servers used in loading the page. This will disable the browser for all users and skyfire will likely shut down the beta. Then it would be months before anyone would see it again.

Use netfront or opera mini/mobile. Whichever you hate the least and wait in line. Cutting never solves anything when there are bouncers waiting for you at the door.

This was just posted on Skyfire Blog. BOO Extending invites to download in a measured pace
Tracy DeMiroz
February 13th, 2008
As Nitin wrote on Friday, we did begin the process of inviting people signed for the beta to download Skyfire. Many of you are asking, “Where’s my invite to download Skyfire…I’ve been waiting…Did I miss my invite notification?” We are extending the invites at a very measured pace and yes, unfortunately many of you are still waiting. It pains us to have you wait. We’re very anxious to get you into our beta program. We know how important your feedback is. However, the number of sign ups for the beta program continues to be off the charts – more than we can accommodate today. We will get to everyone signed up, but initially we have to pace ourselves. We are inviting beta signs up to download on a first signed-up, first invited basis. If you registered for the beta program on our website, we will notify you both by email and by SMS as soon as there is room for you in the beta program. Please be sure that when you signed up for the beta program you entered the mobile phone number you want to download Skyfire on. We need that mobile phone number to notify you when it’s your turn to download. If you used a different number, please sign up again and use the mobile number of the phone you want to download Skyfire on. This is important and how we will notify you when it’s your turn to download. As reminder, first we are supporting Windows Mobile phones in the U.S. After Windows Mobile, we will support the Symbian platform in the U.S. – starting with Nokia N-Series and E-series phones. This could take a couple of months as we continue development and testing. We also hear all the Blackberry, Palm and Linux users who want Skyfire, but the wait will be longer. For our friends in Europe, Asia and around the world, we are working hard to roll out the service internationally. We are very anxious to get you into the Skyfire private beta as soon as possible. It’s only with your help that we’ll march to a stellar 1.0 product. We ask for just a little patience.
