so far epic gps sucks.

as of right now its hard to get a lock on gps. most of the time google maps will say, ur location is currently unavailable. sprint nav wont even tell me my location.
every once in a while i will get a lock, but it will be far away. like 3miles. then i will lose it and say not available.
for the settings i have gps satellites turned on at location and security tab.

Re: so far epic gps sucks.

I walked outside, turned on both Google Maps and Sprint Navigation and in about 3 minutes it had my location to within 30 meters. I know there have been reports of the Galaxy S series having GPS problems, but mine works fine.

Does the GPS usually take that long to lock?
Does it take that long on the EVO?

Re: so far epic gps sucks.

If I'm near a window or outside, the Epic seems to get a location lock on a few satellites within about 30 seconds. A little quicker than my Touch Pro did. However, inside my home, and inside my work building, where the Touch Pro would still get a lock after about 1-2 minutes, the Epic just continues to search, not locking onto any satellites.

3 minutes to lock outside is a problem. i can lock in about 15 seconds with my EVO. Samsung really wet the bed on this flaw and they best have it corrected in 28.5 days or my wife will have to choose another "pretty" phone

Re: so far epic gps sucks.

the problem has persisted from the samsung moment days, what is that 2 or 1.5 years ago. they didn't bother to fix it then and only are doing it now because they want to take the second spot in the cellphone market.

Re: so far epic gps sucks.

The first time GPS is run on any device (even top of the line Oregon series), it will take a few minutes to find, lock and calculate its position. After that and if there is not a major change in location, operation is much quicker.

Re: so far epic gps sucks.

I had the Moment and it had terrible GPS signal/lock, after playing with the Epic for over a day now every time I turned on GPS google maps it has worked flawlessly, no waiting more then 20 seconds or so and it has been IMO perfect so far. Sorry to hear about your troubles.
