Question Is there a way to disable the virtual keyboard

Hey everyone this is my first post here so I took a quick look at the TP Essentials and FAQ threads but couldn't find this question fielded in there. Is there a way to disable the virtual keyboard from popping up automatically when you select a text input field? I recently loaded some logbook software onto my phone and the virtual keyboard pops up and hides whatever fields i'm trying to edit forcing me to manually close the keyboard over and over again. Thanks for your help.
