Like I said, there are are a ton of reasons why calls could be good or bad. Voice codec, bandwidth, latency, proximity to cell tower; in other words, it's a crapshoot.

never used skype, but I have a quick question... I have a friend here in the states, that will be traveling to India next month for a business trip... Since cdma roaming is pretty much non existent overseas, can she load skype on to her touch pro, and use skype & the hotels wifi to make calls to landlines here in the states?

It is unlimited all the time, assuming you have an unlimited data plan with your carrier, or just use wifi. I use it a lot when i'm outside the country calling in and vice versa once in a while. And skype itself has amazing unlimimted plans vs. just keeping a $10 credit. Few extra bucks a month for a number, vmail, call forwarding and more for a constant traveler is priceless.

Should work just fine, but yeah she needs to have wi-fi access.
