LOL... I didn't really use salt... I just said that because I cooked a battery cover is all.... I will give it another go, I got a buddy who works at Sprint and he says he has a few I can get.

Thumbs up Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!

I tried my hand at this little project last night. Did this successfully on a TP and Diamond back cover. TP back cover is now black (and looks sweeet) and Diamond is orange. Both turned out VERY well. You can't tell one bit that they didn't come from the factory this way. It’s almost like a magic trick or something... Steps are listed several times here, but just to throw my confirmed steps out there:
1) Got the RIT at walmart. Orange and Black (one per phone back)
2) Got a medium size pot and filled with water 3/4 way to top.
3) I put my burner on just above medium. JUST b4 it started to boil I added the RIT (full bag) and stirred about 2 min to make sure powder was dissolved. 4) Washed back with soap very good to get dirt and fingerprints/oil off.
5) Just dropped cover in the water
6) Waited 15 min stirring nearly constantly but slow (not sure if that is needed, but did it anyway) I also made sure not to scrap my cover on the bottom or sides of the pot
7) Took out and washed with luke warm water until the water was clean coming off
Dried with paper towel and used a cloth to lightly buff.

POOF - just like everyone else confirmed before me - turned out great.

To those who decide to do this, you won't be disappointed.

You happen to have a picture of your stylus? No one has posted a dyed stylus yet.

Not sure why anyone would dye the stylus. Not sure if you even CAN. Isn't its body mostly some metal composite? Besides, I like mine silver...I can still see it if I drop it somewhere. Black to match the phone would make it difficult to find. However, some obnoxious colour like yellow, pink, red, etc. might negate that but sure would look funky with the phone.

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!

Just an update:

My black cover is maintaining its outstanding black finish very well since the first day and my phone is constantly in my hand. I do have to occasionally wipe the oily smudges but then the entire device is a fingerprint/smudge magnet.

Other colors may fade or wear faster; I am not sure.

And no, I did not use salt in my cooking...

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!

I have a Diamond so the Stylus is also that nasty burgundy color. The top of the stylus seems to be a more porous plastic material as it turned black but the tip of the stylus 'point' is a hard plastic and still retains a darker burgundy color but it's so small I don't really care too much for.

Here are some pictures, I tried to capture how dark the stylus is but I have poor lighting right now. Wish I could've saved the other stylus to show the difference between them, but I just wanted to get it all done together :P
