Disable Auto Rotate

I have been searching all the threads and so far haven't been able to find my problem. My phone holster is sideways (Horizontal). When someone calls and I try to grab my phone it rotates the screen to Landscape but by that time I have it in Portrait so it switches back to Portrait. The problem is that it is so sluggish that by the time it auto rotates back to Portrait and I slide to answer the call is gone. I just want to stop the auto rotate so that I can pull it out of my pockets and it's always in portrate. I have seen lots of comments about turning auto rotate off in the G-Sensor menu of the HTC menu but I don't have a G-Sensor menu in the HTC settings. Perhaps there an Advanced Configuration program for the TP2 that will allow me to easily do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Disable Auto Rotate

It's the magnet in your holster that is doing that. Buy a holster with velcro instead of a magnet to close the flap. The phone thinks you are sliding the keyboard open when it detects the magnet.

Re: Disable Auto Rotate

Are you f-ing kidding me. That was one of my biggest gripes with the TouchPro where the magnet in the case would cause the backlight to turn on and kill the battery. And of course Verizon has no cases that are velcro. I was able to order one from HTC last time but the velcro started to wear about 6 months in. That is so irritating. Ok, I guess it makes sense. I wonder if I flip my phone the other way if that will prevent it from switching? I'll try it.

Thanks for your quick reply!!

Re: Disable Auto Rotate

Interestingly, I found a cab called "Disable Slide Wakeup" which is suppose to turn off the awake when you slide open the keyboard. Two problems:

1. It doesn't seem to work which I assume is tied to MR2.
2. I'm not sure if it would solve my problem because once the phone is ringing it has already woken up and the magnet is still causing it to rotate.

I found the following case and ordered one:

store.wmexperts.com/smartphone-experts-leather-side-case/4A120A6207A

(edit, I removed the link because of the experiance I had with this supplier, see below)

Hopefully this will solve everything.

Re: Disable Auto Rotate

why not use the answer button when pulling it out of the holster so you don't miss the call?

You could do what I do and simply disable the gsensor device. It will stop the function for all apps that depond on it. For me, I gave it up to help the battery.

Here is a thread with various cabs I made to disable services:

Hope it helps...

Re: Disable Auto Rotate

Thanks for the info guys. I definitely plan to disable some the devices. Good point on the answer button. I thought I tried that and it didn't work. I thought I had to use the slider. I'll give that a try as well. Between that and disabling devices and the new case, I should be all set.

Thanks again for your comments.

Re: Disable Auto Rotate

Just a quick update, I ordered the velcro case 2nd day shipping from wmexperts.com as I have a trip this weekend where it was worth getting the case quickly. I received the case today which looked the same as the picture on the outside but when I opened it there was no velcro, it was magnetic. I contacted wmexperts.com to see what they could do for me and the person I spoke with said they had to first check out why it happened. When he came back to the phone he said "yeah, looks like some of the magnetic ones got mixed in to the wrong bin". He then asked "when are you leaving on your trip?" to which I said tomorrow morning at 10AM. He said "I could get it to you by Tuesday". I told him I really need it tomorrow morning and he said "I can't do that". It's frustrating, they screwed up and really should make things right. I have had plenty of other companies send the wrong product etc. and they do make good. Cleary wmexperts don't see it as that big a deal. My strong recommendation is to stear clear of wmexperts as there are many other suppliers of cases that will send you what you ordered or overnight you the correct part at their cost if they screwed up. I intend to put this on a number of forum so in the end, how much will they lose as a result of blowing me off? Hard to say but probably more than the cost of Overnighting something.
