volume control hard buttons when in off mode

Maybe I am spoiled by my old Treo Pro, but when I have my screen off and listening to music, I was able to adjust the volume of the speaker with the hard volume buttons by just pressing them. On the TP2, you need to turn on the display by hitting the power button and then you can use the volume buttons, any way to change this like the Treo Pro?

Maybe there's a setting somewhere but this is my second TP2 on Sprint. I've run the stock 6.1 and now the stock 6.5 roms and with the screen off... I can adjust the volume with the hardware volume buttons. Let's see what other members have to say. I'm not sure what would cause your buttons to stop functioning.
I've just tested this with WMP and Slcacker radio.
Are you experiencing this with a particular music player?

have the same issue cannot adjust volume while screen is off. I once used a rom that actually allowed me to adjust volume while screen is off, so I guess it is just a registry thing. Maybe someone has a cab for us.

I am running stock 6.5 and all apps cannot access the hard volume buttons when the screen is off. Anyone with ideas?
