Question Backup/cleaning/maintenance tools, which one(s) and why?

I have installed SPB Backup, SK Tools and cleanRAM. I find cleanRAM a quick and working solution after running a bunch of apps so I don't have to soft reset, and I've run a few SPB Backup backups now, I like the compression and super-simple process.

SK Tools, however, I'm becoming wary of. It is one helluva deep program with plenty of tools, but after doing a few registry cleans/optimizings, some tunings, etc. I have found a couple kinks happening. For example, re-pairing my desktop to the phone gives me only ActiveSync as a service now, whereas previously I had file transer, audio gateway, and a couple others and they never show up any more for it. This happened immediately after the SK Tools processes ran.

I have Total Commander and PHM RegEdit as well-- all I really want is a task manager where I can view all running processes and restart/kill/etc. individually. I don't know that I need the entire SK Tools just for this, can you guys give some recommendations for that?

Thanks for any help

SKTools, the only Swiss Knife I would use in my PPC.

Re: Backup/cleaning/maintenance tools, which one(s) and why?

You do have to be careful with stuff like the "reg cleaner" in SK Tools.

I remember when I had an XV6800 & I was using Wisbar & had something like 10-15 program shortcuts at the bottom of my WM Home screen.

They all worked fine until I ran SK, then over half of them turned in generic white WM icons & the shortcuts stopped working.

Re: Backup/cleaning/maintenance tools, which one(s) and why?

I'm partial to SPB Backup + MemMaid + Resco Explorer/Registry Editor.

No better or worse than any others IMO. I've just been using this combo for some time and am very comfortable/familiar with them.

I particularly like MemMaid's memory/speed tweaks and the fact that MemMaid runs at a basic & advanced setting. Basic won't let you screw up too much. ScheduI have MemMaid set up to clean every morning at 5:00 AM. Very useful in cleaning up the notifications que. A good program all around.

I put my vote in for SPB Backup for your backup solution and SK Tools for everthing else.

Re: Backup/cleaning/maintenance tools, which one(s) and why?

Looks like I will stick with cleanRAM for the occasional wipe, SPB Backup for backing up the contacts/tasks/calendar/notes and SK Tools to manage processes, although I will avoid anything else with it as far as registry cleaning, etc.

I use CleanRam to help avoid soft resets to clear ram. Works great to freshen things up.
I use ClearTemp to clear temp files like cache, cookies, and histories. Also it will show running processes and provides a handy soft reset button. I usually run ClearTemp at the end of the day.
I also use SKTools when I have uninstalled an app to help cleanup and optimize things every once and a while. You definitely have to be careful with it though. Go through the lists of files it flags before you delete them cause you may delete something you will regret. Use it to make a backup of the registry and then you can restore if needed.
