Re: killing start up sounds

There is 2 files in the /windows directory
phoneon.wav
phoneoff.wav
You can create a blank .wav file and name them that. Not sure what it will do if you delete them.

im assuming i can simply replace phoneon/off.wav with other wave files for a more custom boot up right? any restrictions on file size/length?

thanks - I'm somewhat of a noobie - using file explorer the delete or rename option is greyed out on those two files so it won't let me do anything to them.

Solution?

Thanks.

I do have Resco - trial version - which doesn't allow editing files unless you buy it for $29.95.

Cannot one rename/delete files with WM 6 without having to buy a 3rd party add-on? Seems like it should operate just like standard windows on our desktops.

Thanks.

Re: killing start up sounds

get total commander. its free and does the same stuff. I just use resco for the registry editor(which is free with the file explorer trial).

ok - I loaded TE - tried to rename those files - it won't take the rename. It just goes back to the original name - I realize these files are read-only so I went to properties and unchecked read-only - still doesn't work.

I know I'm missing something very basic but my brain isn't functioning this AM!

Can you walk me through how to rename a read-only file using Total Commander?

Thanks. Jack

Re: killing start up sounds

Only sprint and qwest have sounds for the phone radio turning on/off. Annoying because it happens on startup too.

Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendedFunction\CDMA\FlightModeOnOFF]
"EnableSound"=dword:1 ;Change this to 0 to stop it.
"Sound_on"="\\windows\\PhoneOn.wav"
"Sound_off"="\\windows\\PhoneOff.wav"
