Word "Messaging" Randomly shows up on top left corner

Didnt know if someone else asked this question, so I am asking again, sorry:

I got an Imagio around 2 weeks ago and randomly I see the word Messaging on the top left corner of the screen. Does this deal with the phone trying to retrieve new emails periodically. Should this be doing this, just wondering?
