Undisited on rooting my hero

I updated my hero a few weeks ago to the stock sprint 2.1 and have been thinking about rooting now. I'm new to the whole rooting thing. My question is, is it really worth rooting my phone and running a custom ROM? Also, if it is worth it what are the best ROMs I should try out? I have seen a few people talk up Fresh Hero 2.3.3.

Re: Undisited on rooting my hero

I'm the same way, havent been on PPC since '08 had an Iphone going for a yr and am back with sprint, i found my way back here curious of what tweaks and mods were possible with the android OS, tried lastnight for a few hrs to root and run custom ROM but was unsuccessful, i plan on continuing my efforts as soon as i get out of work, i was unsure for a while and am still somewhat questioning if i should or not but i dont feel like my device is running as smoothly as it could and from what ive read Fresh's 2.3.3 ROM is smooth and stable for everyday use and sounds like it runs better than the current OS which is all im really looking for so i figured, why not.

Re: Undisited on rooting my hero

The lag from 2.1 killed me so I either had to root or get a different phone. I rooted and have not looked back since. I am running Fresh 2.3.3 and it is stable and much faster than the stock. I have had some hicups though, but all in all I am happy with my phone now.

Re: Undisited on rooting my hero

The wireless tether makes it a no brainer to root.

Re: Undisited on rooting my hero

Ya the whole tethering thing makes me really want to do it. Thanks for the input, so I guess Fresh 2.3.3 is the ROM to try first?

Re: Undisited on rooting my hero

One more question if I want to unroot and run the stock 2.1 sprint ROM, do I just redownload the ROM and run it?

Yes. If you run that program on your desktop that you used the first time, it will completely remove everything you've ever done to the phone.
