Simple backup procedures?

Hi,

I've been wanting to get into custom roms, but have been hesitant because of needing to redo my contacts and email settings.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've read that the contacts can be backed up by simply copying pim.vol from main memory to Internal Storage and then replacing later? But how are the email settings backed up?

I was looking into the likes of Sashimi, but it was too confusing for me. And SPB backup seems to do far too much and isn't free?

Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Simple backup procedures?

free simple better program....usee the microsoft myphone. It allows you to backup virtually everything on your device. And either restore it back later to any phone (using wm) and/or allows you to access everything online at their secure website.

I love it whenever i need to back soemthing up.

jut google myphone

Re: Simple backup procedures?

Another option would be to use GoogleSync. It just uses a simple exchange connection in WinMo to push contacts from the device to the phone and vice versa. It can also track calendar appointments and other items.

The benefit to GoogleSync is that it can run cross platform. If you later go to BlackBerry or Android, you'll still have access to all your contacts without having to export them or do anything complicated. I just moved to BlackBerry for a while and GoogleSync worked like a charm!

Re: Simple backup procedures?

I used Myphone a while back when upgrading from an older stock rom to my current stock rom. However, it was problematic in that it would bug out halfway through and did not completely restore my contacts.

I'll give the googlesync a try, thanks!

BTW, no idea about backing up the email settings?

To back up the e-mail settings, Sashimi is THE way to go. There are a ton of great and simple walkthrough videos produced by the creator to help you get started.
