FileExplorer /Total Commander on self-unpacking archives?

I guess I'm a noobie wrt WM6.5, but I'm not understanding what is going on when I am in FileExplorer and I tap on an .EXE file that is a self-unpacking archive, like many program distributions. But instead of running the unpack/install for that program, it dumps me in TotalCommander.

What's the point of that and what is the "right" way to get those programs installed? Mostly I'd just like to return to the behavior I'm used to: a tap on those files installs the program...

If it's an EXE you need to run it off of your PC with the phone hooked up via ActiveSync. You can on install files with a CAB extension from the device using file explorer or total commander or any file management software on WM.
