HTC_CM_Killer
2 Attachment(s)
::::::just in time for that highly anticipated(and way late) official rom update from sprint.:::::::::::::::::
It is a fully automated cab file to completely remove and replace the stock HTC_CM_Guardian.exe with a dummy file. it should work on any HTC device, but let me know your mileage. ***Please terminate any active data connection before running*** **this will reboot the phone when finished. more info; (htc_CM(carrier modifications)_guardian(prevents change) HTC_CM_Guardian is process locked into stock HTC roms (carrier specific???) this process appears to only monitor certain registry/phone settings, reverting any change back to factory default. removing this file is futile as another HTC file will regenerate this one, however if it is replaced with a dummy file the system cannot execute and the watcher thinks it exists. 'Killing' this process saves memory and lets you tweak to your hearts content. this cab will kill the already running process, replace it with a dummy file, and reboot when finished. Quote:
to revert (not sure why) just delete the dummy file from \windows UPDATE 3/11/10; finally updated to include disabling resproxy. feedback/testing needed. :) the CMProxy killer is all inclusive, the cmkiller is left for those who may want it. update 3-24-10; by all reports the sprint 6.5 rom only needs the reg edit, however replacing the file provides peace of mind. either cab will still work, one does just the cmguardian, and the other does both cmguardian and the resproxy |

Edit** Did some research, and apparently it's the file that resets all your carrier settings back to whatever carrier you have, making it impossible to move networks. (Metro, Cricket, ect.) |

Re: HTC_CM_Killer
Nice info, but as far as memory, you'd onnly save 5kb
|
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
Here's a hint...you probably only care about this info if you are trying the new Sprint/HTC TP rom...
|
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
Im still a little confused. Maybe its the morning, but what effect does this have on some one running a custom ROM like Mighty's?
|
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
Dude, one of the obstacle we faced with the new Sprint ROM for TP was the fact that HTC_GUARDIAN was reverting the ICS HACK applied to tether to PAM (phone as a modem) all the time. So instead of fussing with that isht all the time, use the Killa cab....apply ICS , done , go tether...but dont overkill:mrgreen:

the list continues. so is it just limited to sprint? don't other carriers use this? I know the mogul has this guardian, and my cab should work on it too. |
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
5K IS 5K. We'll take it.
|
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
Even more importantly.. if you don't have a data plan killing this will allow you to change and your data connection settings.
|
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
absolutely,in addition to making the ICS hack permanent,nomsayin:evil4:
|
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
oh, haha, I just realized it's 9k. :) that's part of my programming to make sure the file size has changed, otherwise the original didn't budge.
|
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
The original file is located where - \Windows folder?
Even though I'm not a big TP hacker or a PAM user, I'll use this anyhow for the mem/CPU freeup - thanks! ETA: Nice dramatic announcement screens on the CAB install routine  |

Re: HTC_CM_Killer
Hey cool avatar dude, install to device and the error u getting prolly has nothing to do with the killa.

Re: HTC_CM_Killer
if you get the message
'R.I.P. HTC_CM_Guardian" followed by a reboot, then my Killer worked. it should work no matter where you install it, but ymmv. there is an error message if it does not work. also uninstalling my cab will not revert the change it makes. |
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
Ok, I run the cab file and the file is gone. :headbang:=D>=D>=D>Thank you; but I still have an issue with the carrier name I keep changing it in the register from Sprint to Metropcs them it displays Metropcs but after a ding or res star I goes back to Sprint do you know how to stop this action from happening. Thank you

Re: HTC_CM_Killer
Hi,
I am using the Sprint Latest ROM 2.01.651.6 on my Sprint Touch Pro in India on Reliance (carrier). Now my question is that I have used this HTC_CM_Killer and it has killed the cm guardian file. Earlier we were manually replacing with a zero byte file. Now with this new rom whenever I reboot and connect to internet, it gives an irritating message of device being configured and tries to connect to, I think, sprint server and then gives error that device could not be configured for this service. Even though the internet connects perfectly with the connection I have set (as we have deleted the Sprint connection). Is there any solution to this minor irritant so that it does not say go into device configuration thing every time... |
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
Can I connect via Bluetooth? its not giving me the option on Internet Sharing...
So my question is.. I want to teather via Blue Tooth.. is this possible on the Sprint TP2? |
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
this will kill htc_cm_guardian.exe that way any tweaks you do will stick. as to what works on the tp2, I don't have one so I can't say for sure, but I don't see why not.

Re: HTC_CM_Killer
I got the message 'R.I.P. HTC_CM_Guardian" followed by a reboot. However, my PAM registry hack still reset back to default after I turn on/off the phone. I have the Sprint TP2.
Pick this up from http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=88640 I think these two Registry changes in the _setup.xml does the trick. <characteristic type="HKLM\Services\CMGuardian"> <parm name="Flags" value="4" datatype="integer" /> </characteristic> <characteristic type="HKLM\Services\SqmUpload"> <parm name="Flags" value="4" datatype="integer" /> </characteristic> |

the latest tp1 rom is actually newer than the current tp2 rom and those regs don't work for us. I was thinking I should probably add those regs anyway to cover all the bases. |
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
is the one in your link on your sig file the new one?
|
Re: HTC_CM_Killer

The following Reg need to be added as well. <characteristic type="HKLM\Services\CMGuaridan"> <parm name="Flags" value="4" datatype="integer" /> </characteristic> Note the different spelling between CMGuaridan and CMGuardian? Sneaky... |

Also, will the 1st post (CAB), be updated with all the new adds to it? |
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
well, I'm not sure about that spelling (variant/error), and I haven't had time to properly dig into the issue again. as soon as I do, I will update the cab and the link in my sig.
However, I have not been able to confirm my existing one does not work as is. |
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
why not remove CMGuardian completely? why even leave a dummy file... use the dummy file and the reset to stop it, then remove it completely then remove all related CMGuardian files and the dummy file and reset again?

your method doesn't result in the rom restoring the original cmgaurdian? |
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
sorry, from reading your posts and some other posts here on PPC and even over at XDA I see that there is a need for a "Dummy" file, so my question was/is: why the need for a dummy file
the only thing i can think of is more files/programs that use it/restore it, so my 2nd question was can you use your replaced dummy file, then remove the reason WHY you still need the dummy file (im assumg that another program is calling the file and would replace the CMGuardian file if its missing) is their a way to just get rid of it and whatever repopulates it if its removed? |
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
well, last I looked there were several system files associated with it. I don't have a clue which one of those is responsible for calling cmG.exe and more than likely replacing those files with older versions would likely have negative consequences with the newer rom/sys.
|
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
ah ok, that makes sense, i didnt know weather this was a quickly thrown together thing (which it is) or something that you went through and found out this was the only way to get rid of CMG (which would be nice but seems it would take too long by your summery)
much love&respect for you, i really wish someone would tear down this MR release so it can be kitchenized almost (i like some stuff but not all from sprint) |
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
it was kitchenized before it was public. it is using sys 21054.
|
Re: HTC_CM_Killer
i meant with the sprint changes/mods
