Not really, as it requires a data connection; BasicGPS does not.

Yeah, but it is tons better if you don't want to have to do "homework" before caching. It is good for spontaneously pulling out your phone and finding geocaches. Also, it is much nicer to look at among other advantages.

I've never done this before so I installed BasicGPS and it does not display any geocaches or even a map when I go to its builtin google maps. Is there a certain file I need to import into the program to be able to use it? where do I find these files? maybe I should try gczii? does it have everything built in?

How do you load a cache in this software? I can't figure out how to use it, it pulls up the caches in my zip code but how do I select a cache to load?
