What am I missing w/ Palringo & Nimbuzz? Their notification features are terrible..??

Strictly for IM purposes, I've tried out the following apps:

BeeJive
Octrotalk
Slick
Palringo
Nimbuzz

Thats also the order of my preference in them from my testing. They all have pros and cons of course but since I've seen so many positive responses on Palringo particularly, I cant understand how some many people could like an app so much (for IM) that has such poor notification options. So I'm figuring I must be missing something there in with how I have my phone config'd... When I get an IM on Palringo and a mail looking icon pops up at the top of the screen (regardless of what app I currently have running). Note, the IM itself isn't displayed just notification that I received one. Then I have to click on that top bar which brings up a larger set of icons (because the HTC Touch Pro is simply too small to not use the enlarged notification option in WM6). Then I have to click on enlarged Palringo mail looking icon, and then it tells me I have a new Palringo message and I can either click Open or Dismiss. If I click Open, it doesn't take me directly to the IM but rather to the Palringo app and I then have to tap (this is the 4th click mind you) on the IM conversation from the person who IM'd me.. That just seems like a ridiculously poor notification design to me... Yet so many of you love this app, I'm wondering if because I run SPB SHell 3.0, I'm loosing some functionality or something..?? And I've also seen similar posts about Nimbuzz being so great but on my phone at least, it doesn't notify me AT ALL if my phone is on vibrate. Its only notification (that I can find) is audio - no visual. Is this correct and this functionality works for those of you who love these apps so much or is my phone not reacting properly to the apps..

i'm in the same boat. i've tried all those, plus aol's official app, and they all pretty much suck a lot, and all in different ways. i usually just stick to oz, because its simple. though, if i get a phonecall while im'ing somebody, i get this unusual set of error messages that can take literally 10 minutes to get rid of, which is why i tried palringo, but you're right, the notification system did me in.

i also am using nimbuzz and agree that the notification blows. Not only the vibrate issue you already mentioned, but the audio is just a small beep that you never hear. Nothing flashes on the screen or anything. i will try one of the others you mention.

Palringo has the best options I've seen, including the notification which is what Nimbuzz lacked
