Here. I edited the CAB so that a shortcut was created in the Programs folder. I also changed the company/application name, and default name

There's another thread going on about this too. Maybe a Mod can clean this up???
I read through the twenty-some posts at XDA and there isn't a whole lot of feedback. I almost want to dust off my 6700 and see if it'll work on that.

has anyone gotten this program to actually connect to their laptop? I can start up the program and have wifi turned on, but for some reason my laptop cannot see it available as a wireless network.

any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

It connected fine for me. I used my above CAB with the default settings. I'm running the latest MightROM6 on Sprint

thats odd, you think it could be that i am running the stock rom that came with the phone?

works pretty well for me but it often flakes out for no reason. it looks to be a little sparse in the feature department. i don't think it can replace wmwifirouter quite yet but it's an interesting app.

Re: New HTC WIFI Router software makes WMWifiRouter obsolete

I can confirm the heat issue. Wmwifirouter had issues with this earlier on. The 2 radios being on the whole time and facilitating the network connection probably doesn't help.

--ninja edit

i have a touch pro with energi rom..

brushrop03 07-21-2009 10:24 AM

Re: New HTC WIFI Router software makes WMWifiRouter obsolete

Overheating will always occur when using your phone for heavy data use like this. It doesn't matter the program

ventowtf 07-21-2009 11:21 AM

Re: New HTC WIFI Router software makes WMWifiRouter obsolete

This is double the data usage, 2 radio's are operating simultaneously. I run Pandora/Last.FM for hours and I don't experience this type of heat issue. It's only when I run WMWifiRouter or any other application that facilitates network sharing via Wifi.

anyone get this to work on a HTC Mogul with the Windows Mobile 6.5 rom? I installed it on mine and it doesnt detect the router

Re: New HTC WIFI Router software makes WMWifiRouter obsolete

Wont get a chance to test it for a bit, but can anyone tell me if it automatically enables wifi (even if the wifi radio was turned off)? WMWifiRouter does that for me and its useful knowing that I dont have to dig through an extra menu just to enable wifi before using this program. Thanks.

Re: New HTC WIFI Router software makes WMWifiRouter obsolete

Very nice. Worked great for me, I just had to make sure my laptop could see ad-hoc networks.

ventowtf 07-21-2009 12:39 PM

Re: New HTC WIFI Router software makes WMWifiRouter obsolete

yes, it turns the wifi on/off as needed. be forewarned you'll need to delete any existing ad-hoc connections you may have configured, or configured on your behalf by wmwifirouter

kidmet 07-21-2009 12:44 PM

Re: New HTC WIFI Router software makes WMWifiRouter obsolete

I still can't get my laptop to find it. Ad-Hoc on and all.

Re: New HTC WIFI Router software makes WMWifiRouter obsolete

EGOvoruhk,

the cab you posted is not working for me. i have tried it on 3 different roms however the original one works fine on all three.

for people that are having issues are you using EGOvoruhk or the original??

Re: New HTC WIFI Router software makes WMWifiRouter obsolete

I don't think it will replace WMwifirouter yet. If you don't want your TP to overheat use nuedynamic clock control and step the CPU down to 328mhz.

When I launch the program I get the attached error screen. Do you have any idea how to resolve this?

I have two data connections available.. One is the default Sprint and the other is my work connection. Perhaps this is causing this issue?

Thanks,

Rick

I got it to work. After it prompted me the first time I clicked edit on my "sprint" connection.. Did not make any changes, but saved it. Now it properly uses my Sprint connection.

Thanks.

Rick

Re: New HTC WIFI Router software makes WMWifiRouter obsolete

When my screen shuts off my wifi disables, On Wmwifirouter this never happened to me. Is there a fix to keep it sharing with the screen off.

Re: New HTC WIFI Router software makes WMWifiRouter obsolete

Don't count on this working well wmwifirouter had so many hours of development testing and tweaking on it that I doubt htc will invest that much in look at your graphics drivers if you want another example of how htc half asses ****, this will be another htc half ***** mess

Re: New HTC WIFI Router software makes WMWifiRouter obsolete

This isn't exactly a 'wmwifirouter killer' but a different product aimed at a similar market. wmwifirouter does a lot more than JUST wifi sharing. Please consider: http://global.wmwifirouter.com/features/

I like having multiple choices (especially free choices) but to say that this is a 'killer' or 'obsolete' really is unfair as it's not a LIKE for LIKE comparison. They don't have the same feature sets (not even close).

HTC doesn't exactly have the whole Windows Mobile handset market locked either. There is still Samsung, Motorola, Sony, etc.

Re: New HTC WIFI Router software makes WMWifiRouter obsolete

Heh this program overwrote my WMWiFiRouter settings, both wep key and ssid. Now when I run WMWiFiRouter 0.91 I get wifisharing as name and 1234567890 as wep key hehe

Re: New HTC WIFI Router software makes WMWifiRouter obsolete

WMwifirouter is also less likely to tag your data (like the original tethering app) so that the cell companies can charge you for clever usage of your phone's features.

Free is nice though. If its all you need, go for it.

wmwifirouter would as it has the ability to be ran without the LCD display.

I believe they both would, however if the drain is more/faster than the charge... :drunken:

They should have similar battery life, but I'd give the nod to WMwifirouter of saving anythig possible.

Neither continues to charge with use, though an HTC provided app is more likely to serve the interest of the cell-carriers than it is the consumer, so future versions may not be so "free" to use.
