GPS Program for hiking?

Hi all. I need a program that I can use when I go hiking.
Something that could plug in state and local trail maps would be great.
I've googled and found a few, would like to see if anyone has tried them and could make a suggestion.

Re: GPS Program for hiking?

Delorme and National Geographic both have WM software versions as well, but personally, I wouldn't use phone based GPS for hiking or back country just because of the poor battery life. I get 20+ hours of use out of my Garmin GPS60CSx. With GPS on, I can barely get 4 out of my Touch Pro.

Re: GPS Program for hiking?

Here is a map of me hiking on terrain map.
This is after uploading the gpx file. This is just a small part that sportypal can provide.

If I still had the time to get out like that, this is a pretty cool app to use...
