my new weather app/plugin. free for all.

here is a link to download my new app. http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...d.php?t=150417

Xcast gets weather info from weather.com and displays it on the todayscreen. It's small todayscreen space and light weight app size makes it nice app to have. Plus it's free.

I have put like 40 hours into making this app. It has room for improvements, and will be updated as time goes on. The new version has the original display choice along with a few extras.

I have given 5 display choices. The first one is the original with 4 new ones.

A display choice menu with examples to choose from.

An update interval menu where you choose how often it updates.

A one page veiw of weather info in text format. Notice the scroll bar. Too much info for one screen.

A quick link to web based forcast. Links are to weather.com. Choose from 4 different types.

And last a quick look at all your settings.

Enjoy, Cody

Great app, thanks Cody. A couple quick/minor comments:

- I use word completion a lot, as do most of us. My word completion adds a space onto the end of everything. The space at the end of my zip code wound up stalling the installation. I did a soft reboot and tried to update XCast but it hung again. Everything worked fine once I removed the space. Not sure if it is possible, but you might try limiting the zip code to 5 numbers. Not sure if weather.com accepts +4 zip codes anyway.

- The word "forecast" is spelled incorrectly in the pop-up menu.

Like I said, great stuff.

Marc

Xcast also accepts location codes, for example 'New York, NY' corresponds to USNY0996.

update version 3.2

see first post of this thread.

now you have three zipcodes you can set and quicly select from todayscreen plugin.

also, there are 48 new icons that will change when the weather changes. there not the best, but better than nothing. thay olny took me like 50 hours. lol

enjoy, cody

the next version should have multiple display lines to choose from. new plugin stlye.

Hi Cody:

XCast stalled on updating when I was connected to my laptop via USB. It just kept trying to update over and over again but was never successful. It could get the data as soon as I disconnected. Is there a way to change the behavior? Maybe changing a device setting would help.

Marc

PS: I have not tried v3.2 yet...
