Re: Suggest for Windows Mobile: Official Google Voice App

I just voted for it. I am psyched.... Google Voice could be pretty close to a visual voicemail type solution. The last voicemail I recieved on the service texted me a transcript of the voicemail.... I was surprised. I am originally a Grand Central subscriber, and the best they could do was send a text notifcation of a voicemail.... the transcript is nice. Now if there was an app that could take it to the next level.... it would be great!

Are you sure that it's WinMo is a dinosaur, or that it's a nightmare for developers in terms of standardization? I would bet its the latter, because WinMo (from the inside or out) is a pretty open a capable platform. Because of the lack of devie standardization it makes it hard to develop it for. Something Android, Iphone, and BB don't have to worry about. (well BB until recently anyway).

No worries, Microsoft is addressing that.

Google made Apple a Googe Voice App... Both AT&T & Apple kicked it out of the app store.

http://www.intomobile.com/2009/07/27...-appstore.html

Gee Google, all that WASTED time on a App that died the day it was available.
Hopefully we get an App on WINDOWS MOBILE now... I'm sure Apple & AT&T just PO'ed a $#!T load of people for that one.

Until things get official, here's a start:

OneDialer (the only 3rd party GV app with SMS)

A person who has free incoming calls onedailer is the+googlevoice #= the true unlimited calling plan :-D and as gen said a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME for google making an app only to get rejected like so many good useful apps that comes to the app store..smmfh at that epic fail. Now chop chop google make use an official app but I have a strange feeling imma still be using onedailer ;)

LOL, really I didn't see that coming. Apple prides themselves on having an app for everything on iPhone.

Apple: "Google Voice? Oh no, no.. There's NO app for that...ever"

Makes you wish Android, Blackberry or Windows Mobile would have a commercial backed by Google on the availability of Google Voice for each.

Hell an Android commercial at the least

Just because... :p

I'm not sure I understand the point of a native Google Voice app, (although I did do a "suggest"), After all, even routing all calls through GV, it still takes up plan miniutes, (it's not free). So beyond doing it just to say that you did it, I don't see the point behind using Google Voice as a replacement number.

Thats just it, its far more than just a extra/replacement phone number, read up on it. :thumbleft: I think you'll come to like it once you understand how it works.

http://www.google.com/googlevoice/about.html

Its more like an extension and enhancement & if used right, you CAN cut costs on your wireless bill, it may not be free but its not making anything more expensive if you have the right carrier add-ons & know what you're doing. Thats where the beauty of the app comes in most, also see Androids & Blackberry's app to get an understanding of what makes the official app that much better.

Well what's worse is a higher up from Apple told the google developers their app would be OK'd. So they wasted all that time and money on the app, all so Apple could pull it. I have a feeling it was Apple up to no good, simply trying to hit Google when they could.

Yet another reason the iphone is a failure in my eyes. A fad for kids.

I disagree chronster. I think Apple was ok with it until AT&T asked them to pull it.

Yeah I mean it's not like they work closely with AT&T and knew exactly what apps had been pulled in the past... :/

Lets say AT&T did ask them to pull it, what about other carriers that offer iphone around the world? Are those iphones running a different app store, or no app store at all?

I don't know what drug dealers did before their jailbroken iphones. Crime must be skyrocketing because of Apple's embarrassingly weak walls!

I just "suggested it"... GVdialer works, but it's not as "integrated" as I want...

I don't want to see Googles #, rather see my contacts in SMS...
I don't wnat the call to start than stop.. everytime I make a call out
I want to be able to use other dialer than WM STock...

The better of the 3rd prty apps IMHO is onedialer (the only one with SMS support) The contacts list is slow as molasses though.

iDialer give some notion of integration with its own dialer but it has no SMS.

I hate that GVdialer doubles up my call logs with two phone calls. I can't use onedialer since I don't have data plan. Magicall is great but I want a prompt asking to use gv or direct dial like GVdialer. Any suggestions.

:silent:
Not sure how much $$ VZW milks for data but using any variation of a 3rd party Google Voice app, I'd highly recommend getting a dataplan.:(

Re: Suggest for Windows Mobile: Official Google Voice App

Hopefully, yeah.
I'm starting to feel kinda iffy about it ever coming to light, no hints or even a whiff of possibility was sprung nowhere about Google doing anything for Windows Mobile, I've heard more about Google making another attempt for the iPhone web app version than anything else, not even Palm Pre.

I'll keep trying to promote this until the day I get the HTC Hero. GV has definitely become a big deal and a deciding factor for my next phone. I must have this in all its glory. The sorry looking mobile web version isn't cutting it, I hate web apps.

Windows Mobile 6+ is starting to become the PalmOS of todays phones(not as bad though)... I hate to admit it.

Re: Suggest for Windows Mobile: Official Google Voice App

Well, I just added my vote too. I have a Google Voice number now, so I'd love to have a WinMo app. But regardless, I'm getting that TP2, with or without GV. It's too slick to pass up.

You can just press the Magicall shortcut and disable the GV rule. Takes 1 1/2 seconds ( I just tried it :) ). This way your call will go out directly without using GV.
You can also make an "Exceptions Rule" and put in specific numbers that you don't want using GV when you dial out.
MordyT came up with the idea of how to enable Magicall to automatically use Google Voice. He also included the program he wrote that will download the rules automatically to Magicall.
You can find his thread over here >
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=75156

Magicall is pretty effective and versatile in being able to set it up to use Google Voice, considering it is was developed way before Google Voice was made available.
The support given to Magicall by the Developer is excellent.
Software is only as good as the support given to it by its Developer.

If your carrier offers an option such as > Sprint's "Pick Any 3 Numbers" or T-Mobile's Fav 5 or Verizon's Friends and Family, and you have that feature on your plan, then all of your outgoing calls thru GV are FREE :)

@stricly ppc670
Quote"Is there any way to get that feature?

You can chat with Sprint and ask them.
I would start with "Hi, I would like to add Pick any 3 Numbers to my Account."
Instead of just asking them if they still have the Pick any 3 Numbers feature.
You may have more success in getting it.
Give it a try and see what happens.
I think Account Services is the only department that is offering it, if they still are. There is also a thread around here where a member was having success adding it on for some people.
But I am not 100% sure if it is being offered by Sprint anymore.

**UPDATE:**
I just checked on another site, and it seems that Sprint is STILL offering the "Pick Any 3 Numbers" feature.
Some people just got it added yesterday.
Account Services (aka Retentions) is the only Department that can add it to your account.
