Autolaunch and close Google Maps?

I was really excited when Google Latitude was initially launched. That was followed by disappointment when I realized it doesn't work like it could/should on Sprint phones. Would it be possible to write code that would automatically launch Google Maps once an hour or two and stay open long enough, say 2-3 minutes to get a GPS lock, then immediately close. This way, you can get constant updates on your friends and family automatically with minimal drain on your battery. Would this be possible in mortscript? I'm not too familiar with writing code so not sure the feasibility of this idea, just thought I would throw it out there.

this could be acheived with mortscript,
but would make it pop up on the screen,
(as far as my knowledge with mortscript
which is a noob status on that, haha)
meaning if you're working on something it'd prolly interupt you...
