Iris 1.1.8 OUT!

I have just downloaded 1.1.8.

Unfortunately, I'm at work so I haven't had a chance to try it out.

most of us would provide a link for everyone when creating a release thread... just sayin...

Just saying, if you care to read a thread, you will find a link.

It's in post 2.

sorry, as I said, I was at work. Not allowed to be downloading personal stuff in the office. SO I rushed, didn't think about the link.

Just trying to be helpful, apparently not helpful enough.

Just saying, obviously i saw the link right below. Already had the DL from the older thread, didn't need it from here. I think you're missing my point. Release threads should always contain a link to whatever they're saying is out IN THE ORIGINAL POST. Someone else shouldn't have to post it for them. Was just pointing that out to the OP for next time. If you weren't so occupied with playing mommy, you would've realized that.

Don't worry about it, i was just pointing out how it's usually done in case for next time. Wasn't trying to pick on you or anything. I'm all for people updating/helping, but links are the most important part of release threads...

have they fixed the fullscreen bug yet?

when you go fullscreen, any button selection at the bottom brings it back to normal.
i hate that. i want fullscreen permanent no matter what i do unless i change it in the settings.

Yeah, still does that. I love having the start menu, so it's not a big deal to me since i won't be using fullscreen. Plus, fullscreen is bs as it is on iris because the bottom bar is still there. If they fix that bug, they should find a way to hide the bottom bar too. Iris has its cons, but i was impressed (1.1.8 was my first time testing it).

they wont remove the bottom bar till they update the interface because its the only way to access the menus

Re: Iris 1.1.8 OUT!

installed it, tried it out. works descent but once again its much slower than opera mobile. 40 seconds to load forum.ppcgeeks.com/ Opera takes under 20 seconds. same location. Unless I need to tweak the settings. Plus opera allows you to scroll while its still loading. Iris is very clear resolution wise so that is a big plus.

Re: Iris 1.1.8 OUT!

Greetings. Ive been using iris for a while now, and find it to be a very nice browser. I cant believe i never noticed noticed this before, iris is using 80mb of ram. I started with 127mb and after a few pages with iris, i just saw my free program memory is now at 47mb. Is this happening to anyone else? If this is normal for iris, i cant imagine it would be usable on the mogul. 80mb of ram used on 3 web pages? Something doesnt seem right about that.

Hi Dschoenike. I did notice Iris uses alot more memory than Opera Mobile. but it was a difference of 10% or so, not that much. Its a nice browser no doubt, but the memory utilization is a burden and it's still not that fast. I will say at least it didnt crash on me this time which was a problem in the past with Diamond users.

See Attached: NPFL3ppc.zip

Flash 9.0 plugin for Iris Browser. Extract to \Program Files\Iris Browser\Plugins\ and restart your browser. Flash will now work properly in Iris. This file is also archived on my 4shared if you need it.

The only flash plugin i have installed is flashlite 3.1 and youtube.com works fine for me using 1.1.8.

Re: Iris 1.1.8 OUT!

Flash Lite does the same thing as manually copying the plugin to the proper directory. The plugin I posted will work for any browser that uses Netscape style plugins. (Opera, SkyFire, Fennec, etc).

Re: Iris 1.1.8 OUT!

Greetings. Iris browser has now been updated to 1.1.9. I havent seen a change log yet, but im sure someone will find it :)
dschoenike

found the list of new/fixed features list.

Iris Browser 1.1.9 was released today.* It includes a number of important fixes and some exciting new features.* The highlights in brief:
Improved canvas support - curves,* transparency fixes, and more
Application cache support
Some networking and javascript fixes
Flash reliability fixes
The link click animation has been removed, by popular request
A security fix in SVG support
Preliminary RTSP support and a Windows Media plugin.* Also the beginning of HTML5 audio/video support (more to come here)
Fixes for various iPhone site, including Google calendar and reader
Some of the multimedia features are still early in the development cycle but considering how much already works we decided it was worth releasing it now.
You can download the update through the online update system or via our download page.

:) Ive been testing it for about an hour now, and it's working very well. Youtube and a few other flash video sites have worked flawlessly, and the overall speed of the browser seems faster than before. Only concern i have, which i also did with 1.1.8, is that it uses a ton of memory (at least that's what my TP is showing) If i start with 135mb of free ram, by the time i close Iris, my ram is down to 65mb. The performance doesnt seem to be affected, but i wonder how well it would work on a Mogul? Overall, great update. :)

OMG!WTF!I cant believe its not butter! They took away the water ripple animation when you click on links. Thats terrible! That was one of my fav things about iris. :(

Soaa- 07-06-2009 01:31 PM

Re: Iris 1.1.8 OUT!

It was one of the things I hated the most, so I'm actually glad they removed it. :P

It seems that the Opera Mobile still renders pages faster though, so I'm sticking to that for now.

Re: Iris 1.1.8 OUT!

well. im going back to 1.8 for the ripple effect. sad inded. I blame obama. Anyways, whats the trick to make native youtube to work? Am I missing a plugin? I used to run a custom rom and all the flash vids worked on all sites. Now I am back to stock and loving it but non of the flash sites work.

Re: Iris 1.1.8 OUT!

Try installing one of the many Flash Lite cabs floating around... One of them should do the trick. p:

Flas is a no-go for me. I'm using v1.1.9. Never tried it v1.1.8. Guess I'll downgrade and give it a shot.

Did notwork for me too. I was using nightymike latest rom and installing iris was all i needed to do and flash worked on iris. so he knows what plugin works. quick someone ask him!

Re: Iris 1.1.8 OUT!

I think Iris knows how to use the plugin if it's cooked in. Flash should work in my alRom as well.

Re: Iris 1.1.8 OUT!

Weird. Im running the 6.5 copper rom on a sprint touch pro. Yesterday when i first updated iris, i couldnt get any vids to work. I then put that file into plugins, restarted my phone, and videos started working. Sorry guys, i thought that file i posted, was the right thing.

Weird, flash worked fine for me in v1.1.8 and now it doesn't work with 1.1.9... wtf. And where the hell is the ripple effect? Boo to them for not adding the option to turn it back on.
