I'm thinking this might be a setting? I'm gonna dig around and see what I can find.

Ah... yeah that is a deal breaker. *edit* Wait are you looking in the config or the normal settings?

Otherwise I am really liking it. I really don't care about flash.

When I am using the Phone Keypad Keyboard, I cannot enter characters in abc mode but I can enter them in T9 mode. Anyone else with this issue?

Turn off turbo mode. It seems to work fine if you turn that off.

*edit* It seems that once you enter the password it is saved, even if you turn turbo mode on, then back off. Once you turn it off the password is still there.

Re: Opera Mobile 9.7 out Monday!?

Two things I noticed right quick is that the passwords probably arent saving because of the compression server in between. The proper url might not be being saved. The second thing that i noticed is that 9.5 has the option to enable turbo mode already. The 9.5 versions probably just arent able to use the turbo compression server.

if you load site w\o turbo, all is good password wise. once your logged in just switch to turbo.

This is an absolutely AMAZING browser. Faster than Opera Mini, smoother and sexier than the old Opera Mobile.

Does anyone know how to make this the default browser for my browser tab?

Heres the .cabs:

9.7 beta known issues

Browser
  • Opera Turbo in Opera Mobile is still a preview-feature;
    • Downloads don't work while Opera Turbo is enabled.
    • Some settings (such as toggle on/off images) do not apply when Opera Turbo is enabled.
  • On older WM 5.0 Devices with 480x800 resolution, switching between portrait and landscape may cause display errors. This is due to lack of support for this resolution in early versions of Microsoft's driver.
  • Some input method editors are known not to work well with Opera because they do not comply with Microsoft's SIP and/or IME standard. When such an editor is detected by Opera, Opera will use a known (default) input method instead. An exception is EzInput v1.5, where the phone keypad and compact QUERTY, ABC mode doesn't work, but the rest of the modes work fine. We recommend upgrading to EzInput v2.0 to avoid this.
  • Only support for FlashLite 3.x. No Flash plugin included.
Widget manager add-on
  • The Widget manager is an add-on to the browser, so the browser must be installed in order for the widget manager to work.
  • We recommend disabling Opera Turbo in the browser when using the widget manager.
  • Rotating widgets does not work properly. Portrait mode should be used when running widgets.
  • Widgets + Plugins (Flash & Gears) don't work.
  • Clicking internal links in a widget will launch the browser.
  • Twitter widget might have login problems on first run. If this happens, just close the Twitter widget (X) and open it again.

Re: Opera Mobile 9.7 is now available (FTP)

Anyone know how to get the 'Pre loader' working, it takes about 5 seconds to start, and to me that seems like a long time. 'Real exit' is off in the reg settings, but that just may be 9.5's settings..

Re: Opera Mobile 9.7 is now available (FTP)

When you install Opera 9.7 on a Touch Pro, does it replace the stock Opera, or do you have to continue with the previous version when using Touch Flo?

Also, is there any way to import the Opera 9.5 bookmarks into 9.7?

Thanks!

This browser is awesome. The only issue i have with it, is that it doesnt save passwords/usernames while in turbo mode. Gotta sign in to ppcgeeks everytime i close and reopen the browser.

The pre-installed version of Opera 9.5 should be located in your Windows directory in your phone, installing Opera 9.7 places the new version in your Program Files folder, so both version co-exist. So far I haven't had any problems launching either version.

If you want to port over your old bookmarks locate the "opera6.adr" file from your windows folder (or previous install location) and copy it to the "profile" folder inside the new install directory of Opera 9.7

... and you're welcome ;-)

This is great, also when you enable Turbo mode it only pulls up mobile versions of websites, like cnn. Even without the Turbo mode enabled it flies.

Unusable on HTC Touch.

No SIP toggle, Very very slow and freezes.

Using NFSFAN's v10 (latest)

Now that it is out, we should probably continue this thread here:

no need to have two separate threads talking about the same thing.

I noticed that too, they have the same problem when you are using Opera Mini.

It is very fast on my tp. However, all of the sites are unreadable. I have to use the zoom feature on every site. Does anyone know how to get the sites to come where the text is not microscopic? Also is there a way to get the smart touch to work with this version?

We recommend disabling Opera Turbo in the browser when using the widget manager.

With these and other problems with Turbo, I'm rather surprised that everyone is so enthused about Turbo. Sounds to me like Turbo is not really ready for prime time.

Turbo mode works good if you are just doing some general web browsing, but Turbo mode in itself is just in early stages (beta) that was released within a beta product, and the reason why Opera disabled it by default.

Quote from Opera:
It's not the full version of Opera Turbo yet (yes, that's a Beta feature in a Beta release), but we couldn't wait to show you this cool feature.

I am having frequent freezes on the HTC Touch Diamond.

Also the zoom seems always maxed out even though the letters are very small.

Sorry guys I still think it sux for most browsing, I'll stick with pie and skyfire at this point. It's just too cumbersome.

I'll try out the next version too... I just don't see the draw here, quick browsing is supposed to be quick, PIE is, this isn't. If I'm trying to get the full experience of a site I still like skyfire better, but hey to each his own...

Have you tried enabling turbo yet. I agree, without turbo enabled, it is slow to fully load compared to some of the modified 9.5 opera releases. with turbo enabled, it is as fast as mini but the their are trade offs.

I wonder if our experts here can tweak this up to render only desktop versions, even in Turbo mode?

I'm having a hard time understanding why you don't think this is quick, I did some tests last night and this site loaded in about 5 seconds, Wikipedia loaded in appx 6 seconds.

And to think PIE is faster? Have you tried loading this site in PIE to see how long that takes?

Probably not for turbo mode since most of that would be on Opera's servers.
