Orb and Security

Hey all,

As my user title might suggest, I'm a little new to PPCs and Smartphones. Today I discovered Orb, and to be honest I nearly peed myself in excitement. Within minutes of installing I was watching the videos on my computer from my phone, and dancing around like a maniac.

But, for however cool it may be, is a service like this really secure? I've read a few different reviews of the service and they all vaguely mention encryption and security, but I was wondering if anyone here could reassure (or deter) me a little bit more? Honestly, it seems a bit... suspicious that I can remotely access my entire media library from my phone, for free, whenever I want, and that in doing so I'm not creating some blatant privacy vulnerabilities.

Is my media libary now open up for everyone who uses Orb? Is Orb now tracking everything I play, and finding out about that mp3 I downloaded 10 years ago from Napster? Will my musical tastes be itemized, categorized, reviewed and prioritized to flood my inbox with fantastical suggestions for future album purchases?

Any more info would be greatly appriciated!

To access that library you are using a password. So, no... only someone with access to your password can access that library.

Thumbs up Re: Orb and Security

@Rourke Swift

I've been using Orb with my PPC (Mogul and now Touch Pro) for the last year and 1/2 and although I write a music blog and receive quite a few emails from people promoting their music and asking me to do the same with the free D/L they send my way, I've never seen anything to support Orb cataloging what's on my PC's HDD or what I listen to, etc.

Orb is a great and useful tool for me as I'm always on the go and might not have had time to preview a new artist yet. So I can always access the audios from it and if it happens to be something I really like I can also use the more option to D/L it to my Storage Card as well.

Oh and Drybonz is correct. Unless you go about giving the password out willie nillie to people, no one would have ready access to the files on your PC. To further speak on it, there is an option you may not have used yet in Orb where you can create a personal profile, select what files you would like to share with people and then give them a link to it but that still wouldn't give them access to your entire HDD, only what you choose to share.

Hope that helps you out.
