iPhone Software vs Windows Mobile Software

First off, I don't want to start a flame war or anything . I'm just perplexed by the current state of software on both platforms. I'm not a big fan of the iPhone at all. When it debuted, initially it looked nice, but as I started reading more and more about it, it was pretty obvious that it just was not the phone for me. Now with the app store on the scene for less than a year, some of the software thats coming out is just amazing. I've only been a windows mobile user for a little over 2 years now, so a lot of you guys have a lot more history with the platform than I do. But my question is: Why do applications on Windows Mobile just plain suck compared to iPhone apps?

My main two ideas are standardized hardward and more open documentation with Apple backing the app store. What are your thoughts though? Do you think the Marketplace will level the playing field at all?

I love my phone (Touch Pro). What some of the coders here at PPCGeeks and XDA have done are just plain cool and really do make your phone into a pocket PC. I'm just a little bummed that the iPhone platform is taking off, and Windows Mobile is getting left behind. Thoughts?

I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. I've had no trouble finding apps for my 700WX, but then I use it almost strictly for work

Re: iPhone Software vs Windows Mobile Software

The standardized hardware is a big BIG part of it all.

There are certain advantages when you are writing software for a specific processor with specific peripherals as is the case of the iPhone... When you write winmo software for dozens of OS versions and hardware combinations things get harder.

Of course Microsoft is not helping matters when they announce winmo7 for a certain date and they end up just delaying it for a full year and releasing instead winmo 6.5 which is pretty much more of the same.

Finally, the screeeennn, the motherf#$%#@&! screeeeennn!!!

Pretty much in the same boat. Most games and stuff I play are easily found.

Re: iPhone Software vs Windows Mobile Software

Apps are pretty much fine for WinMo... but the thing most people like, and notice right away, about the iPhone apps are the responsiveness of the capacitive screen. WinMo can't do capacitive yet... but that is pretty much the answer to your question.

Re: iPhone Software vs Windows Mobile Software

thoughts? Here's a thought, how about people stop creating iphone vs windows mobile threads around here. It's getting lame and repetitive.

If you want to hear our thoughts, use the search function ffs.
