displaylink, using your ppc as a seconday monitor

I just broke down and ordered a 7" MIMO usb displaylink monitor. I wanted a 3rd monitor just for my photoshop palettes (macbook, 20" and now a mimo).

I remember a while back, you could use a pocket pc as a secondary monitor with software. Unfortunately, I use mostly OS X and linux. I rarely boot into windows.

Is there a way to make a PPC device (HTC Touch Pro or any PPC device) as a displaylink type monitor?
Or maybe, is there a way to run VNC as a virtual display and simply have the PPC connect to the virtual display and pseudo monitor spanning?

Reason I am asking because I have so many extra PPC devices not being used. E.G. Dell Axim x51v w/ wm6.1 and a VX6800 Verizon. I would love to use those. Right now my Dell Axim is just reloading facebook/tweeter on a dock.

Re: displaylink, using your ppc as a seconday monitor

I forget the name of the software, but Microsoft put out some software to remotely display pictures and such on a PPC a month or two ago... I seem to recall it being a Vista feature, but can't quite recall... (Think it was to support secondary display on the lid of a closed PC, much like on a clamshell phone) This ring any bells with anyone else?

Edit:
OK, I found the links that talks about it...

Re: displaylink, using your ppc as a seconday monitor

Microsoft gives SideShow some love by releasing Windows SideShow for Windows Mobile. Not yet mass-market ready, Microsoft’s Windows SideShow for Windows Mobile Developer Preview v0.01 is an application for Windows Mobile 5 and Windows Mobile 6 Pocket PCs and Smartphones that allows you to use your Windows Mobile device as a Bluetooth SideShow-compatible device. This enables you to use your phone as an extra window into your PC. You can both access your computer’s information from your Pocket PC or Smartphone, and control the computer through a gadget interface. While the phone is out of range, or when your computer is off, you can continue to view content sent to the phone previously. This makes it easy to send information to the phone that you’ll need later on.

The developer preview is available in English only and supports Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate Bluetooth-enabled PCs using Microsoft’s Bluetooth stack. Toshiba Bluetooth stack isn’t supported at the moment. Furthermore, Windonws SideShow for Windows Mobile requires a Bluetooth-capable Windows Mobile 5, Windows Mobile 6 Standard or Windows Mobile 6 Professional device with the .NET Compact Framework 2.0 installed.

Extract attached file to PC desktop and install via Activesync.

Re: displaylink, using your ppc as a seconday monitor

And here is an article talking about both the Vista and XP solutions.... (Seems the XP solution is more mature.)
