SMS is only possible over the cellular network - it was invented to take advantage of the communication your phone has to make with towers anyway (as a way to get users to pay for something that would happen anyway).
You could easily get email over the internet, but not SMS. |

to build on what the previous poster said...i would think that one could find one of the programs that auto-forwards sms msgs to email, and then reply back to the sms address....sorry i dunno the name of any of said programs, bc i dont use them.

can u not roam?? bad reception altogether in the building?? or just no service for your carrier?? im in the opposite....no service at home...so i have to roam contantly, but got ev at work...only 10 miles away lol sucks but i dont get charged for roamin on my plan so it works...

The only way I can think of doing something like this is what I'm doing right now with Google Voice. It's not a complete internet solution but I've been using it to send SMS to everyone since I don't have unlimited text messaging.
