Sending / Recieving SMS with internet connection instead of radio?
Ok, the title sounds a little confusing, but basically what I would like to do is connect via activesync so the phone has internet access through my computer, then make and recieve sms (and maybe even mms? :D) using that connection even if the phone's radio is off.
The reason is because I have ZERO service at work, but i can hook the phone up and give it access to the internet. When I get off work and finally get service, I get a flood of text messages that I'd like to recieve when they are sent. Anything like that? |

SMS is only possible over the cellular network - it was invented to take advantage of the communication your phone has to make with towers anyway (as a way to get users to pay for something that would happen anyway).
You could easily get email over the internet, but not SMS. |
to build on what the previous poster said...i would think that one could find one of the programs that auto-forwards sms msgs to email, and then reply back to the sms address....sorry i dunno the name of any of said programs, bc i dont use them.

The only way I can think of doing something like this is what I'm doing right now with Google Voice. It's not a complete internet solution but I've been using it to send SMS to everyone since I don't have unlimited text messaging.
