Yup I just log in from time to time. If you are following something or someone important you can have twitter txt you when they update.

Can you use other SMS services like google sms ? If so I guess twitter is just messing up. This happens often.

Make sure you have device updates set to "on" on each person whose tweets you want to receive as a text message.

I just keep twikini running in the background. doesn't seem to impact battery life much (especially if you reduce the update frequency). I found the text message updates got really annoying after a while, 'specially when following a lot of people.
