Re: [12-3-09]Android CDMA TouchPro: TEXT and TALK(RAPH800) Ported!!!

Oh, and btw.. Are there any extra steps needed in order to get a working data connection, or should it work pretty much out of the box?

Re: [12-3-09]Android CDMA TouchPro: TEXT and TALK(RAPH800) Ported!!!

catfishk: did you put your apn info into default.txt? Did it make any difference? (I guess it's hard to tell, since data won't work anyway with the proxy.) Having sprint (who use no username or password), I hadn't even thought about it.

I have no idea how to deal with the proxy server (find someone who's ported a Hero over to cricket, maybe? Is that even possible yet?), but you should be able to at least find out if your data connection is established. Not sure how much linux experience you have, so don't be offended, but give this a shot:

Bring up a terminal and type 'ifconfig' (without the quotes). It should list the networking interfaces (if = interface). There should be a 'lo' (local loopback) and 'ppp0' connection. If there is a ppp0 connection, and it has an ip address that looks real, that's a pretty good sign your connection is established.

i'm a Linux user, primarily, and i need to be root to run that. however, the "u" key doesn't work in Android, and i need it to type "sudo" to get root privies. maybe i can get at it another way?

i have edited STARTUP.TXT a few times now, and played with the browser proxy settings in Android a bit. i think it can work. Crickets data is over #777- same as Verizon, Sprint i think. we can only use web ports 80 and 8080. the proxy is wap.mycricket.com, which i think resolves to 172.29.223.11 in Portland. should do web, at least

Re: [12-3-09]Android CDMA TouchPro: TEXT and TALK(RAPH800) Ported!!!

nothing i can do to the STARTUP.TXT will allow for Cricket connections, i am convinced. ppp0 does not appear in ifconfig... ever

/dev/smd0 exists (modem, right?). setupmodem.sh is running

$cat /smodem/ppp.log:

Turning on Data
Done!
PPP connection went down
Done!

i don't think the APN settings in Android are for CDMA, but only GSM phones, since it's an old version prior to CDMA support

/dev/smd0 is the radio (i.e. the AT channel -- dials, sends/receives SMS, gets signal strength from the towers... not sure if it also carries voice). /dev/smd1 is the modem. If you're getting an error about no device on smd1, you won't get data. But I doubt that's your problem.

I also don't think the APN settings have an effect on CDMA. It's quite possible that the ppp settings for cdma in the RIL (Radio Interface Layer) that has been coded for HTC WinMo -> Android devices is not properly handling ppp authentication. If you have a desire to get your hands dirty, catch me on irc or the wave sometime and I can explain to you how to boot into angstrom (a command line distro) and test the ppp connection without the confounding variables of Android.

Speaking of the wave, I'm trying to move the majority of my interaction on this topic onto Google Wave, because (a) it's neat, (b) it means, ideally, not having to reply in 3 different forums. The Android on HTC Devices wave is where I'm putting my effort. Hopefully that link works. If anyone needs a google wave invite, I've got plenty; just PM me.

if it works, for you too let me know - i found you have to click at the opposite end from the target... or just use the d-pad.

I went to the site for the apn settings but the problem is there is nothing for sprint on them.
