iPhone development vs. WinMo development

Hi Everyone,

I love my windows mobile phone but I gotta wonder, why does it seem to me like app development for the iPhone is much more robust and the products come out looking a lot more polished and professional than WinMo? I am sure we have a much larger user base and the percentage of the users who are actually developers is probably much much larger than the iPhone side yet they have cool 3D games, nice apps for common websites like imdb, or yelp, or facebook. I mean i know we can use browse over to the website itself but it's still nice to have a polished looking app that just works. Even the apps on the iPhone that don't do anything look polished and professional wherease on the WinMo side, I have yet to see a cool looking app that say uses an accelerometer besides Twitter. Emphasis on the cool and polished looking.

Any one know why that is?

Re: iPhone development vs. WinMo development

i think its just apple wants iphone to be... fun, easy, flashy, app friendly, game friendly consistent, anyone one can use it, affordable/steady price...

microsoft wants you to do your buisness with your phone and thinks it giving a great web experience(which it doesnt really) and theyll give you a decent UI to toy around with.. tries to keep its cutsomers in "higher end $500-$600phones"

i think they honestly just have different agendas

I think it's almost impossible to create an app that isn't visually appealing on the iPhone due to its native UI....

+1

It's a matter of making it easy for the developers. Apple put the visually appealing pieces in place, making it easy for developers to keep with the iPhone "look & feel", when they develop an app.

On the flipside, WinMo's basic look and feel is bleh and to make those visually appealing apps, developers must do their own things to make it so. Heck, that is what TF3D is... an overlay to WinMo to make it more visually appealing.

I think we may see something much better when WM7 hits.

I bet we won't see WM7 until 2011.

And it won't be that much better visually.

Legacy APIs are the bane of Microsoft.
