Re: Why Does Goolge Latitude SUCK

I dont know. A friend and I tried it, he on his 800wx, me on my TP. The initial location was fine, but it never seemed to want to update the other persons position. We drove down the road with the two phones beside each other and we thought they would update about once a min or so, but it never would update until we exited out and re-ran google maps

If you aren't using gps on sprint then it won't update. Sprint doesn't allow google to use the tower location to update where you are only with an active gps lock. So if you turn off gps, no more updates. Also if you exit the program and still let it update it uses the towers, which sprint doesn't allow so again no updates. If someone with a FUZE wants to chime in and let us know if they get tower location tracking that would be great :) anything nongps doesn't work on sprint.

It works on my Touch Pro.

Re: Why Does Goolge Latitude SUCK

The touch pro and other phones can locate with tower triangulation, which on the CDMA network is known as AFLT. While other providers allow access to triangulation location, Sprint guards this information on their phones, and only allows you to access it if you develop software jointly with sprint. Perhaps the reason Sprint doesn't just give the info away is because they are charging $5 a month to use their Family Locator service, which DOES use AFLT data from phones

Damn Sprint and their nickle and diming us...
Anyway, my two cents is that the app works great, but it works better on my friends' Android phones for the sole reason that they do not have to keep Google Maps open all the time. I heard it was a GSM versus CDMA thing, but what you said makes sense stanmarsh. Can anybody on Alltel or Verizon use the location awareness when the app is closed?

Ok people if you have a Sprint Tocuh pro this program does not work. You might think it works the program seems to run fine and doesn't crash. But the program is suppose to update your location automatically and which it just doesn't. It's cool and works when you manually update your location but for me it needs to be done automatically or the program is garbage.

I wouldn't call the program garbage because of a limitation that your carrier has set.

Doesn't matter if the carrier set it or not the program doesn't work on my phone the way I want it to so it's Garbage.

That doesn't really make much sense to blame the app because of a restriction that they have no control over, but that's really all on you.

My friend is on ATT and uses the Blackberry Bold and it works perfectly. It updates every so and so minutes with correct location after he exits google maps.
