Another alternative is to use mypyramid.gov

No, it's not a program on your phone, but you can set up a diet plan and access it from any internet terminal, and it'll keep track in a similar way to My Pocket Diet, which as you've noted is not a free program.

Unfortunately, the database of all these programs seems to be the weakest point. There's food items you can't quite find. I use thedailyplate.com to look up more obscure or specialized things, but again, you have to pay to have full functionality.
