Resco Contact Manager - Public Beta Released

Hey all,

Check out the new public beta of Resco Contacts Manager here:

http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/contactmanager/

I am using the Sprint Touch Pro - and this fits it perfectly!!!! It does not integrate with TF3D yet - however, it assigns itself to the TALK button, so everything is just a click away.

Honestly, CONTACTS, HISTORY, and SMS are all MUCH faster to get to with this app - since they are all right there when you hit TALK...

Try it, let me know what you think. I have found a few small (graphical) bugs, and have reported back...

Later,

Matt!

Yea, I emailed Resco as soon as I heard about it - about 3 months or so ago... I thought I was going to be some exclusive tester....I guess not... Oh well..!

I just discovered that the TALK key will take you to resco from ANY program. That's very nice as you don't have to go HOME for the contacts and such to come up...

Later,

Matt!

I like it but the big problem for me is that it doesn't search on company name like Sunnysoft Contacts does. This is a deal breaker for me since I have over 1400 contacts in my database.

problem with me is that when i check sms it closes prob because i have over 5000 messages?

So is it any better than icontact?

Re: Resco Contact Manager - Public Beta Released

Yes when you click on the contact it shows you the Text messages too which i think is a good feature

Re: Resco Contact Manager - Public Beta Released

Hey,

Has anyone noticed that it has trouble matching the incoming calls with your contact list? It's as if the area code or something is laid out differently, and it can't make the match, even though the numbers are the same....

The caller ID function is a little buggy but still its pretty good software. I prefer this over Icontact, but Icontact is freeware so you can't beat that.

Re: Resco Contact Manager - Public Beta Released

Everything worked on my Pro except it wouldn't make phone calls. Whenever i tried it took me to the phone properties in settings. Obviously it had to be uninstalled but it does look promising!
When i get time i'll report it to Resco and see if there is a fix.

i disabled the caller id function, i think the smoothness and layout, make it one of my fav contact programs (cnet face contacts #1). I enjoy the today screen but could be smaller.

I had higher hopes for it...oh well, doesn't matter anymore, I am jumping ship pretty soon anyhow.

Re: Resco Contact Manager - Public Beta Released

I liked it except for some of the known bugs which I anticipate they'll fix. The biggest problem I had though is that on my Touch Pro, the soft buttons wouldn't always work properly. For example, once I opened up a contact and got corresponding buttons for "call mobile", "call home" etc. and I press a button, nothing happens. I have to sometimes press the button several dozen times before it accepts it. Too frustrating.

You can tell they rushed this one out....those little bugs are pretty significant in my book! I won't even bother installing it because I haven't been updating my phone anymore lately. Ever since the Palm Pre was announced I look at my phone as clumsy and slow and in dire need of being replaced.

It's also a beta so you should expect bugs in it. I don't think people understand what beta means anymore.

True but after 3+months on waiting i expect little bugs but in my case it crashes every time i click history contacts and SMS

They at least could have tested it with 300 call history and 4000+ SMS to see if it crashes after a huge amount

Re: Resco Contact Manager - Public Beta Released

Any developer that sends out a beta that buggy, can't possibly expect people to dish out 10, 20, or 30 bucks for a program that can easily be replaced with a stable running free app like iContact. I understand the term beta, but just from what I read in here, it's got some serious issues....like it not making a phone call when you click on the appropriate button under a contact? Please!

Yeah but icontact doesnt come close to this program and to be honest i havent paid for a app yet but i would pay for this

Its nice and once it stabled IMO its going to be the best contact manager and SMS interface out there

But until then im uninstalling it after 3 months of waiting im just disappointed on the crashes when you have a lot of SMS and Call History

They aren't even charging for it, I'm sure they'll have alot of these bugs fixed before the final version comes out, Resco makes good products IMO so i'm sure this one, once it gets released will be good.

I agree. I stand by Resco software. I absolutely love their file explorer and registry editor. I'm sure this will be equally as solid.

i definitely like program so far, as a beta cant ask for to much, anyone who is messing with it know how to get the clock of 24 hr time ?

Re: Resco Contact Manager - Public Beta Released

Loooks good and fairly easy to use, but since the latest release the keypad doesn't show correctly on the Omnia.
It flashes on screen then dissapears, so at present it is sometimes impossible to dial a number and can only use exisiting contacts.

Re: Resco Contact Manager - Public Beta Released

It's working pretty good so far for me, it only has a couple issues.

Pro:
I like the fact that it has a today plugin, I am using it with UltimateLaunch
Favorite page shows large icons which i have been looking for a while.

Cons:
I wish i could customize the today plugin. I see there are skins available, but no instructions, etc. I don't need another clock/carrier/date plugin. It also has a problem with other today plugins for me. It always wants to be at the top of the screen no matter what order you have the plugins arranged causing my other plugin to be overlapped.
CallerID function didn't show the number calling, just a picture and "unknown" (it was an unknown caller).

Still no good for me. Can't make phone calls from the address book. It goes right to this screen. Strange they haven't fixed it by now since its pretty useless like this.

.94 out

http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/contac...p?m=RescoForum

It seems like they come out with new updates everyday

Doesnt Fix the Dial but it adds a Today Item

Warning - it automatic adds the Today Item and unchecks TouchFlo 3D if you click Comm. an error would pop up so go to Start - Setting - Today - And uncheck Resco and Check TF3D

If You want resco just leave it and do a soft reset would fix this problem

I tried .95, wont dial numbers, and when you uninstall it it is nearly impossible to get you contacts back, just keeps telling me cant find resco when I push the soft button, I have to use sunnysoft make it load my contacts then I have them back, seams pretty usless to me, and how many releases is this.

Im sorta shocked at the amount of bugs in this even for a beta...i done a few private beta test for resco and the software wasnt nearly as raw as this. :-(

Think of it as an alpha program or preview release if that helps. Bottom line they aren't charging for it yet, forcing anyone to try it, or even making it so you have to leave feedback on it if you want to try it.

My impression is that the things people are calling bugs mostly aren't bugs, but rather stages in development they have not gotten to yet. For example the "not being able to dial bug", by sheer virtue of the fact it takes you to a settings screen, screams of the fact that it is not a bug at all, but rather a feature not implemented yet.

Personally I mostly use my phone for texting purposes (I am deaf), and I have to say for that purpose and my needs, this program already rocks, and I look forward to see how it continues to develop. My only wish would be that they eventually make it possible to increase the fonts on the texts.

Resco Developers are probably looking at this thread so report the problem here and they should fix it
