Re: Battery Icon: How to Replace (5 versions)

I'm sorry, I lost you when you said, "Before beginning I'd just like to state that..." Could you paraphrase your thoughts or maybe summarize them?

Thanks!
Coz

Redirectively cute and humourous (as always, I imagine?). Still unethical, in my opinion. Censorship has many forms. I believe the above quote, with regard to the last 4 or 5 posts, is a fine example of that.

He didn't delete or edit my posts because I had a point, if not several; that and all this stuff is logged, so that if needed, thems there in the higher-uppers could go through the history and find out the truth.

But thanks for your chill pill. I'll take it.

Re: Battery Icon: How to Replace (5 versions)

I don't want to sound like 'oh look, a fellow mod teaming up on you,' but seriously... your whole post was in anger that Malatesta didn't credit the author, when it is CRYSTAL CLEAR that he did in the very first sentence of the post YOU QUOTED. No essay you write is going to hide that.

I've never seen a new member act like a 'threat' before, and thinks its pretty sad that you would think that. Not sure what your intentions are but new members always bring new ideas, new outlooks, and eventually new methods of moderating when they earn that spot too. Your attitude, however, isn't really portraying any of these qualities, so I suggest lightening up, enjoying your stay, making sure you post accurate information next time, and just sit back and relax a bit. We're all one big happy family, go look at some threads in the off-topic section to get a better idea of what we do here and where you are. Because your assumptions of this place are certainly wrong.

Re: Battery Icon: How to Replace (5 versions)

Pattycerts, I appreciate your assessment on this. Can I make a couple of points on my behalf?

I was upset, having come from the other forum first and seeing all that Jimm98y had put into this little tweak. He put sooooooooo much time into it. After going through 10 pages (and days worth of time passing) of posts and requests, which Jimm98y would grant by building another revision and posting it, his "signature" became less irritating to me, wherein it stated under each post "If you like my work, you can thank me here." I thought, this man has been nothing but polite and cordial to all the comments and requests, and this is what I've been looking for. I donated some pocket-change.

Afterwards I came upon this (PPCGeeks) forum thread through the same google search I had used to get to the xda-dev site, and found that, after reading through all of these posts, in this thread, Jimm98y didn't get near the kudos and presence of the other site's thread. I felt that it was not fair, esp. with an intro like "Got this shamelessly from XDA Forums (that place rocks btw) from Jimm98y", followed by graphics, text, and links that moved Jimm98y's one (almost) reference from view. I felt that it was not fair, reading through all of the posts, to see much less (none) of the author's instant easy pay links. I felt as if the author had been cheated out of the opportunities that would have arisen, had he been involved in the distribution of his software. Me being in the service business myself and having been in the software programming and distribution business, I was able to relate to this (effort-not-compensated), which does happen. Can you now empathize with the feeling of my original post? It was my purpose to show the small injustice that I felt had been done to the author, by not allowing him to be a part of the distribution of his software on this site, relative to his involvement in the xda-dev site where the software came from.

I do apologize if I hit this all too strongly. I personalized the injustice. I do however, feel there is good merit in much of what I said throughout.

This is only in response to my first post. I refrain from defending my second post right now. But finally, the author should have had more prominence in this whole thread, and I do not think that that should be overlooked.

Re: Battery Icon: How to Replace (5 versions)

Hi folks,

First of all I have to thank to Hypocritus for donating me, I really appreciate it - believe or not, he was actually the first one who donated me for my work. I'm the student, so I have to prioritize my time between part time job and development and every little donation will surely help me to put more time and effort into development.

But don't think that it's about money - I'm glad to see how many people is using products of my work and I'm really happy about it. That's why I make it free of charge, but with the possible little donation.

Thanks to Hypocritus I've discovered this forum, so when I'll make something, I'll put it here too.

Regards,
Jimm98y

Re: Battery Icon: How to Replace (5 versions)

Pattycerts, your optimism is a great trait.

However, "we" includes "me", and I and many thousands have perused the "free" mobile software offerings, picking up bits and pieces, and not infrequently picking up something that makes our hearts jump just a little bit. Usually, as the software is free -- and that's why many of us are there -- many of us in "we" do not drop a thank you line or better, as can be evidenced by the amount downloaded versus the comments/posts made, and by the fact that the author may not conspicuously allow us to know that this is an option (donating or thanking), and most importantly, by the fact that many times we come upon software as a result of someone else's posting, and do not have the (prominent) easy opportunity to donate as a result of this secondary or terciary posting.

However, if someone designs useful software, and multiple times displays (at least) a semi-non-obtrusive, easy and conspicuous manner in which to thank/donate to the software creator, this should be carried over if a poster is going to display the author's product to another community, group or site, especially if it's without the author's express permission. Free software has licenses, too, as many of us know. The original author designed and implemented such a (simple) system, and it was completely left out of this thread.

I do find it difficult to understand why someone who has done so much posting, experiencing with free and nonfree software (much more than me, likely), and moderating (a leader among the crowds), would do what appears to me was done in this post, in leaving out what the author had designed into each of his own postings and contributions. The poster undoubtedly ought to have known this, as s/he was extensively involved in the thread from whence the software came. And yet, the poster has his/her own signature after each of his/her postings, advertising a site: www.wmexperts.com .

Ooooooo.... (as in a long "ew" ) probably not cool.

The numbers seem to show that the software "shamelessly" posted, combining all posted versions, is approaching a thousand downloads (around 850, rough possibly-short count). A few months ago (and I've been "scouring" for free software for years), I'd likely have been one who picked it up, without thanking the author (even in verbal form), for one of the 3 reasons listed in a previous post.

I have serious reservations that all of the thousands in "we" feel exactly as you -- and now I -- do. It appears to me that the original poster did not demonstrate this -- "our infinite appreciation" -- in his/her introductory comment, nor in the overall presentation of this useful software.

It is not my intention to prosecute, it is my intention to educate. That is what I do. I believe that the error should be seen (as it infringes upon the rights of others) and from here-on-out corrected, but not covered up. I make errors, too (obviously).
