SKTools vs MemMaid

Are these programs so similar that it really doesn't matter which one you use? I have been debating getting one but now Hanandgo is having 25% off today only so i want to act today.

I believe SKTools can do everything memaid can and more. Could be wrong though.Personally I use and love SKTools.

Re: SKTools vs MemMaid

I use them both every time I set up a new rom, they do a few things simmilarly, however they are definitly different and have different strengths. If I had to pick only one it would be the new memaid, if you asked me a month ago (last version) I would've said sk...

Both have trial versions memaid is a full ver for 30 days, sk is unlimited time but only shows 6 results per test. Those trials will get you pretty far...

I have both myself.

If forced to choose just one, I would probably pick SK but I'm not sure why really.... ;-)

Re: SKTools vs MemMaid

I see that SKTools has a build in backup feature. Has anyone used and relied on this? I currently use Sprite Backup but if SKTolls has this I could delete Sprite.

Re: SKTools vs MemMaid

I may have to give SK another try. I remember a couple years ago using it on my 700wx and a lot of the tweaks were knows to 'disrupt' normal operations, so I went to Memmaid and haven't looked back since. I have found memmaid to be pretty complete in it's functions, and even released a more finger-friendly version lately!!

I'll give SK Tools another look, but for now, my vote is for Memmaid!!!

I use both. I like the ease of using MemMaid (e.g, quick clean features, etc.) and SKTools offers some nice system tweaks.

It's really the difference between spaghetti and lasagna. While they both are essentially the same...they are just different enough.

Same here! Handigo always has some sale going on so pick up the one you need more, then just wait for the next sale. :)

Re: SKTools vs MemMaid

I use memmaid. I've tried both, but if I remember right s-ktools was cripple-ware and you could only try the first 5 things in each list? memmaid had a full trial, I went with what I could try first.

tried to drop a .dll file to change my evdo icon, then I just lost the icon completely, I tried few thing then went to Sktool, it has a feature to look for duplicate Rom file with dates, and let me chose to revert back to original, thought that was cool. so sktool, plus I like all the color scheme it lets you ctrl..

Re: SKTools vs MemMaid

I also use both. Personally, i feel memmaid has a cleaner feel to it, and seems more set up for the novice user. While sktools is geared toward the more advanced user with more options. Least that's how it apears to me. I love em both equally. :)

I definitely use both. Like what they both do.
I find that SKTools frees up a lot more ram than MemMaid.

I totally agree with that. I also like the "shadow services" the newer sktools version has. Cool to have maintenience features running in the backround.

Re: SKTools vs MemMaid

you probably won't get anywhere with the poll because people usually choose one or the other and can't really speak for both (aside from darren, coz, and maybe some other select few). Both are popular, that's why you see the even poll.

I use sktoolz and like it a lot, but i'm thinking of trying memmaid just to see what's similar/same/easier.

Re: SKTools vs MemMaid

For the sole purpose of cleaning, (and freeing up memory and such) memmaid reigns superb from my own experience. However, if i had to take into account all the extra features and such offered by SKTools, like a Backup utility and a Registry editor, i would say SK is more versatile and useful throughout the course of the day.

I have both, but personally like SK better....

Re: SKTools vs MemMaid

sktools can back up your system, so it's much more useful.

Memmaid has got a eye candy interface.... but doesn't comprise all features I need.

Re: SKTools vs MemMaid

Well said Section9, Sktool is just very rich compared to Memaid

I have had SKTools since my PPC-6600. I have the latest build which includes shadow services, etc.

It's complete system backup feature is perfect...

I use SPB BU so I guess it would be redundant, but with backups that is definitely not a bad thing.

I have SK Tools, but I never realized it even had a BU feature. Have you restored complete systems with it??

I'm not quite sure what that is referring to??

What do I look for in SK to check that out??

Thanks for any tips/info about SK.....

What version do you have of SKtools? I have not seen the shadow services on my version, although it is the same version I have had for some time now. version is 4.1.25.4

And to answer the question of the survey, I have always preferred SKtools, it has a lot of features and tools in it, And I love the cab manager so every time I flash the ROM I can just open it up and select all my programs so I dont have to install them one by one.

HBOOT 01-08-2009 10:31 AM

Re: SKTools vs MemMaid

I use the clean up, colors, cab mgr, and others just to name a few.

Sktool users: whatcha think about starting a new Sktool Users Only Thread? I think we can be of help to each others that way in regards to the many functions available?

I'm up for that. Which forum would be appropriate for that topic?
