google contacts and ppc

I would like to hear from folks who are syncing their ppc's with google contacts and calander.

I found a few posts were folks were using a free email push client and syncing their google contacts that way. The discussion on those threads were not focused on the contact syncing and leaves me with some questions.

How are you syncing google contacts with ppc?
Does outlook play well with your method?
Is it a service or an application...how much does it cost?
Are the groups in google contacts transferred as categories on the ppc?
Are their other PIM apps being synced with the contacts i.e. calander, task, and notes?

Re: google contacts and ppc

Although I use gmail as my desktop email client of choice (to front my IMAP-based email system), I have yet to find an end-to-end-sync solution like you seek.

Instead I have to use Outlook as an intermediary. ActiveSync keeps my phone and desktop Outlook in sync and I use Google Calendar Sync to send calendar items to my google calendar. Contacts though are more difficult. I did a one-time export of the Outook contacts to Google via a CSV file. Now I guess I update google contacts manually.

I am surprised that Google hasn't provided more in this area. They make some great tools but leave some gaps in provided an integrated solution for mobile users.

Re: google contacts and ppc

I don't personally use google for contacts or calendar, but I've seen several people on here suggest either OggSync or GooSync. Have you looked at either of those?

Re: google contacts and ppc

I have looked at Oggsync and GooSync. Each of these are services with annual fees. I'm not apposed to paying for apps, but I would rather buy an application than sign up for annual fee's.

I am looking a gsyncit which is a $10 application that looks very full featured. Gsyncit syncs google calander and contacts with Outlook.

I am also looking at using Plaxo and syncing with outlook via plaxo and outlook. Plaxo is a free service with no annual fees.

I've never used plaxo or a service like it. I have used Outlook plugins but Outlook already being one of the fatest pigs in the market is easily just as apply functional as my kitchen freezer or safe deposite box...I mean Outlook likes to freeze and get locked up if it is tinkered with too much.

I posted this thread in hopes of hearing..."I tried this route and it totally sucked. Or I tried this route and it totally rocked". Or something like that. I just know that playing around with PIM data across multiple platforms can be very messy and though I'm willing to just jump in there and give it a shot I'd rather hear from others who have gone on before me...if they exist.

Re: google contacts and ppc

I ran across this site when looking for a way to sync google contacts/calander. I didn't try it because I already sync my phone w/ work via an exchange server. I can't setup two wireless "push" syncs.

Re: google contacts and ppc

You can set up NeuvaSync and it does contacts and calendar. Then just set up IMAP to your liking.
