It doesn't.

You need PIMBackup: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705

Re: Sprite Backup store text messaging on my phone where?

I found this site whilst looking for the answer to this same question.

In the Sprite restore menu, tick the box "Personal Databases". This should restore contacts and txts without fiddling around with individual files.

homeycraz2: On my phone the pim file is in the root directory.

Sprite will restore everything you wish my man, the default I believe is the date and sprite back up , u can look for the Sprite blue icon, the date youmade the back up and the location you put it.
Pim.vol is the default file where the TP keeps contacts. That can be copied to SD as a back up too.
