who we kidding here? Tomtom is a superior program...unfortunately I wish that maps were loadable based on state and not the whole country or North America. IT also seems compared to other countries North America lacks in certain features like traffic and speed cameras. I wish to have a crossover program one day like TomTom and Live or Google Maps.

tomtom US has traffic conditions... I use that all the time to avoid traffic jams in LA...

Still using OCN 5. Great maps of Canada.

I have used iNav for years now and have been very happy. I think I might be going to try TomTom just to see the difference.

i-Go is supposed to be good too

I've used telenav and Im happy with it

have any of you seen smart2go? http://www.smart2go.com/en/
I just discovered this and it's like MLS+Tomtom plus all the greatness of being able to download maps based on your liking. The best part is it appears to be free. The only thing is and I'm still trying to figure this out, is the navigation part of it (using the GPS) is not free. But for sure all the maps are, which is incredible. |
I'm going to be testing these out soon since I just got my first GPS device (w00t), the Spectec 2-in-1 SD/BT (has built in micro SD card reader for maps)--so far I'm very impressed and will have a review up at WMExperts probably next week for those interested...
From what I understand, TomTom & iGuidance are the best, but both have their pros/cons: TomTom - True WM program (e.g. not just a port); works well with the WM/incoming calls - Soft key support - No street name announcements - No full screen support - Maps are good but not as updated as most would like iGuidance - Port from the GPS device, so handles WM a little oddly - No soft key support - Maps are updated very frequently - Announces streets by actual name - Full screen I think the best program would be to combine them! For free apps, I think MS Live Search actually trumps Google Maps, which is very surprising. I just get better tracking and listings of nearby places on the former. |
on PPC6700 - TOMTOM for the streets... GPS Tuner for the woods (and line plotting on the ocean or lake)
...but you it's tough to beat Microsoft Streets & Trips (as a laptop solution). Not really a fair comparison as mobility can be as much a factor as functionality. Microsoft Streets (as a ppc software) doesn't work with a gps device, or didn't when I used it a couple years ago...so it's obsolete to me. My vote is absolutely for TOMTOM, because the issues previously mentioned aren't really issues for me. |
I also use Telenav and am very happy with it.
