C_H_A 05-26-2007 11:35 AM

I voted iGuidance but that's not really accurate....it's the only one I've used.

Torx 05-26-2007 05:07 PM

thats cool, if you find it suits your needs then you havent needed to try another :)

Alkhal 05-26-2007 09:13 PM

Garmin Mobile XT. I use this with my 8525 all the time.

desync0 08-19-2007 08:09 PM

GPS Tuner

grypho 08-19-2007 09:00 PM

Destinator.

Karmashock 08-19-2007 09:51 PM

I use tomtom...

berardi 08-20-2007 09:51 AM

I love Live Search but the keyboard doesn't input correctly :(

eb3604 08-20-2007 10:37 AM

mio or tomtom.

nielsassa 08-20-2007 11:39 AM

I use tomtom on my ppc and got portable garmin. Compared to garmin, tomtom is better and more accurate.

saqer 08-21-2007 03:02 AM

who we kidding here? Tomtom is a superior program...unfortunately I wish that maps were loadable based on state and not the whole country or North America. IT also seems compared to other countries North America lacks in certain features like traffic and speed cameras. I wish to have a crossover program one day like TomTom and Live or Google Maps.

Karmashock 08-21-2007 06:25 AM

tomtom US has traffic conditions... I use that all the time to avoid traffic jams in LA...

sportster44 08-21-2007 10:55 AM

Still using OCN 5. Great maps of Canada.

HobbesIsReal 08-22-2007 02:03 PM

I have used iNav for years now and have been very happy. I think I might be going to try TomTom just to see the difference.

rawr 08-26-2007 11:26 PM

i-Go is supposed to be good too

KoukiFC3S 08-27-2007 01:30 AM

I've used telenav and Im happy with it

saqer 08-30-2007 02:41 AM

have any of you seen smart2go? http://www.smart2go.com/en/

I just discovered this and it's like MLS+Tomtom plus all the greatness of being able to download maps based on your liking. The best part is it appears to be free. The only thing is and I'm still trying to figure this out, is the navigation part of it (using the GPS) is not free. But for sure all the maps are, which is incredible.

Malatesta 08-30-2007 04:27 PM

I'm going to be testing these out soon since I just got my first GPS device (w00t), the Spectec 2-in-1 SD/BT (has built in micro SD card reader for maps)--so far I'm very impressed and will have a review up at WMExperts probably next week for those interested...

From what I understand, TomTom & iGuidance are the best, but both have their pros/cons:

TomTom
- True WM program (e.g. not just a port); works well with the WM/incoming calls
- Soft key support
- No street name announcements
- No full screen support
- Maps are good but not as updated as most would like

iGuidance
- Port from the GPS device, so handles WM a little oddly
- No soft key support
- Maps are updated very frequently
- Announces streets by actual name
- Full screen

I think the best program would be to combine them!

For free apps, I think MS Live Search actually trumps Google Maps, which is very surprising. I just get better tracking and listings of nearby places on the former.

Raging Idiot 08-30-2007 04:41 PM

on PPC6700 - TOMTOM for the streets... GPS Tuner for the woods (and line plotting on the ocean or lake)

...but you it's tough to beat Microsoft Streets & Trips (as a laptop solution). Not really a fair comparison as mobility can be as much a factor as functionality.

Microsoft Streets (as a ppc software) doesn't work with a gps device, or didn't when I used it a couple years ago...so it's obsolete to me.

My vote is absolutely for TOMTOM, because the issues previously mentioned aren't really issues for me.

Csquare 08-30-2007 05:08 PM

I also use Telenav and am very happy with it.

I'm guessing because i don't live in as large a metropolitan traffic conditions are not really accurate?

Seumas 09-11-2007 11:26 AM

I-GO My Way would be my vote.

saqer 09-11-2007 01:07 PM

i was just about so say something about iGO. I've been using it for the last week and it's really awesome. Not only does it take less space than tomtom it has more advance POI searches and allows you to finger scroll in the maps.

apacho01 09-11-2007 02:50 PM

I bricked my mini sd card two weeks ago so I havent been able to try most of these on my sprint 6700, but as strange as it may sound Telenav has been very stable and easy to use. Key factor is that its only a 714 kb file and downloads the maps as you use them (so I dont need a memory card.) Also allows you to imput favorites and trips in on the website(easier to use keyboard and mouse.)Only negative thing is that its a subscription service. well for most people.... ;)

badfrog 09-12-2007 03:59 PM

I drive a lot for work, and for fun, and want something that I can export later showing a map with my route that I took that day... I'm not looking to spend a ton of money on software... reccomondations?

I'm about to test this out, its $9.99/month for North Americans wanting to use the navigation aspects, if you just want to use the maps its free. I have no problem paying $9.99/month if its better than TomTom 6, I miss vocal street names on my older nav software, TomTom only vocalizes "Turn Right ahead in 1 mile" it doesn't say "Turn right in 1 mile on Main Street"

badfrog 09-12-2007 08:11 PM

has anyone tried TrackyPro??

AFAngryWarrior 09-12-2007 09:48 PM

Never even heard of it, is it a GPS program for road traveling or for hikers and bikers?

nsinsinsi 09-13-2007 04:12 PM

Google Navigator 2.4 is pretty damn cool. Still needs to mature but it has a lot of potential.

I agree, the option to save maps permanently is awesome. I wonder how google is looking at this though, because in a sense they're selling the ability to use google maps, right?

badfrog 09-13-2007 04:57 PM

tracky pro is here....

I used it in my review of the SDG-812 GPS unit.

Very cool software, especially with new Google Maps support.

The "tracky" part is awesome...basically you give people your screen name and a special password, and they can live track you on Google maps.

It's a fun app and great for hiking, etc.

AFAngryWarrior 09-13-2007 08:01 PM

I'm kind of weary about paying $59 for "Google" Navigator since its not owned or backed by Google.... Who knows if Google will yank it for Copyright/Trademark infringement or unlawful use of their services? IDK.... just not willing to pay for it.

wingzero 09-13-2007 08:42 PM

Been using iGuidance for about a year, excellent software. Another great one is iGo/Miomap.

Good point. My thoughts on this are:

1- There's quite a few apps doing similar things to this, from mashups to other gps programs like Tracky Pro, so I'm not sure this is expressly against Google's general usage policy. Or if it is, they don't seem to mind when it's such a small thing.

2- Not sure where the deveopers are based, but their english syntax sounds to me (and I'm purely speculating here) like they are in china or russia, which means there's little in the way of legal recourse to stop something like this.

Hi

I am a newbie here... thought I would share this with you. I did buy the Google Navigator... the company stated it was buggie and sent me two files to remove errors, company responded right away... now I am getting No GPS data received! Contacted them several times to get NO ANSWERS this time. Filed a complaint through paypal.

Have never been able to try out this software at all....

thetoothfairy 09-14-2007 12:25 PM

Hi

I am looking for a gps software for my verizon vx6700 that gives me turn by turn voice prompts and can use with my unlimted internet connection on my phone. I do not want to pay a monthly cost to use some software out here, nor do I want to buy a receiver to be able to use gps...

Doesn't anyone know of such software?

your going to have to buy a receiver if you want GPS functionality, and if you dont want a subscription based navigator, you can buy TomTom. but that still requires a GPS unit.

AFAngryWarrior 09-14-2007 04:09 PM

I also tried out iGuidance iNav today, for a just a little while, i'm definitely staying with TomTom 6. iGuidance is too much work to navigate, I like that it vocalizes the street names, but other than that TomTom is hands down IMO. TomTom is built to be used with really big buttons for those using it while driving, and is very easy to get going. It has verbal commands, just no street names and thats fine because when I look at the screen the street name is in big white letters. I'm glad I saw this thread, kept me solid in my love for TomTom.

badfrog 09-14-2007 04:21 PM

how much memory does TomTom use for the program? and for storage of maps?
I have a 1G storage card now, wondering if I should get a 2g?
and does tomtom need to be installed to device memory? or can it be installed to the storage card?
